IMO, Interlock is for plinking and DGX is for hunting.

Have any of you reloaded any of the new 480 grain DG expanding bullets in either a 458 WM, Lott or similar round?
At $40 a box for 50 they could be a great bullet for big critters in Alaska.
I am fed up trying to use Barnes XXX bullets in the Lott as the shank is so long I keep on bending the cases when I try to seat the bullets.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

BF,

Thanks for details and link to hornady video.

The DGX sounds like the old Speer Grand Slam which controlled expansion by having a hard antimony core in front of heavier softer pure lead rear core which was just the opposite of what their adds claimed.

Certainly a better idea than an interlock for intended game and an admission their bonded brass jacket was a failure.

Also similar to the bonded A Square Dead Tough which barely expands and also has high antimony content core. The expanded DGX bullets look very similar to the Dead Tough.

Any bullet that relies on the core to control expansion is basically a cheap cup and draw tin foil bullet.

The jacket should control expansion, which a steel jacket will do by not expanding I guess!

This is a really weird bullet. Sounds like some that Hornady made for Weatherby 25 years ago. They used the jacket of a solid (copper clad steel) but a SP rather than FMJ. I shot some american bison w this and it barely expanded even at 460 WM velocities.

Guess they dusted off that blue print and gave it a fancy new name.

Too bad they have tried to re invent the wheel and dont buy a good bullet like the North Fork.

At least this proves the bullet makers check in on the AR forumn. Everyone has a FN now.

Someone a week or two ago stated that Hornady states the soft only expnds about 10% (?) in diameter. This is not nearly enough, but if they have a steel cup, one could understand why. Not a very good soft.

As I look at the DGS bullets the flat spot on the nose, I fear, is so very small as to not affect penetration, or straight line penetration, as claimed. The 458 bullet is the best one having a frontal area of about 35% of the total cross-sectional area but this is still not near the area of the FPS's of NF, etc. fame.

Typically softs should result in less pressure but now that both the "soft" and solid have steel jackets, pressures will be up there for both bullets.

I see that Woodleigh has new softs and solids (according to Huntington's web site) in 0.410" to match the Hornady bullets (and Ruger) in diameter for the 450/400.

I hope these are not hard to come by in the US.
