Bent,
That's the spirit!!

Here's where I'm at with my 375/08. Is it "needed"? Absolutely not. Am I learning through experience? Absolutely ... and boy am I having FUN at the same time!! Might even have a monolithic 375cal 180gr made for the "beast".

ConBent,
The surprise (to me) has been how unsuitable AR2207 (Hodgdon's H4198) has been. I thought it would be perfect as its a sweet heart in the 358Win with 200gr pills, and I've even had 41gr (WARNING: 2gr above Maximum!) of AR2207 behind a 250gr pill in the 358Win which was getting hot. But in the 375/08, 41gr AR2207 gets me 2450fps comfortably with the 190gr pills but tight extraction with a 22Ogr pill. I just cant get velocity with AR2207 ... powders too fast ... and buggered if I know why as I thought the "straighter" case would respond well to it?!
So ... I'll be shifting to AR2206H (H4895) and Win748 in the coming weeks. The projectiles by the way are a 190gr basic cup/core shot into wet phonebooks ... penetrated about 10". Maybe the oldtimers with their 2400fps and standard projectiles knew something after all?!? Maker is throwing a dual cannelure on them to see if we can stop expansion a bit higher up ... I'm having so much fun I'll be getting a proper set of dies from CH/4D.
If the 458Win AI gets 2150fps a bit more comfortably then the 458WinMag then its all good in my books!
Cheers...

YaleDear Mr. Fossdal:
I can hardly wait to see your results with the 458 Win. Mag. AI! No, I'm not kidding.
If you still need that 458 Win. Mag. AI reamer print that I have from PTG, please send me your fax number and I'll send you a copy.
Sincerely,
Chris Bemis

Bent FossdalMr Bemis,
Yea, I am exited too!
I have already ordered a .450 Ackley reamer, but it could be fun to see your print. My fax-mashine is out of order, so unless you have a scanner and send it by e-mail. Or you could take a picture and send it by e-mail?
Thanks,
Bent Fossdal

Yupp, that is the whole idea!

Regarding the .375-08, I can not help you with the powders, as we do not have american powders in Norway, only Norma and Vithavuori. But I'll agree it sounds strange... Good luck, and keep us posted!
A 250grs bullet should do 2400 fps at least!

A 250grns bullet 250grs bullet should do 2400 fps at least!
...........................A 300 gr bullet easily does 2700 fps so a 250 will probably go 2850 and possibly over 2900 fps .......
Ya I was pretty out to lunch there .. I should have read Con,s post better ...... How is the 458 AI coming along ???
.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Idaho SharpshooterBent,
did a little research, and the cartridge does exist. It's called the 450 B-J Express after its co-inventors Barnes & Johnson. They claim 78 grains of 4320 behind a 500gr bullet is good for 2200fps. That slots it nicely between the standard 458 and the Lott.

Gumboot, the 250 grs bullet is for the .375-08, not the .458 AI, sorry to confuse...

Cool!!! Well, that puts a lot of sceptics to shame!!!!

I do this because it is a sencibel improovement of a strained cartridge, not because I want "my own" cartridge.
And since I am doing this with a .450 Ackley reamer, I'll stick to the .458 WinMag AI.
And I inted to stick to 2150 with less preassure, that is the goal.
Thanks, Rich!
