Only complete penetration at any angle considered of course.

Question:
What caliber do you consider to be minimum for a disgruntled 72 lb Blacktail?

Choices:
.375 Mag
.416
.458
.475
.500

You need a rifle for something that weighs 72 lbs? Use a rubber mallet or something eh!

I voted .500 because that's what I'm building right now. But, a FN solid from any of the listed calibers should quickly dispatch the 72lb Blacktail with minimal meat damage.

DW,

Next time can you please put a proper BT caliber in the poll? You did mention that the Blacktail is disgruntled and that ain't nuthin' to fool around with. What if it charges? I've heard of 'em with legs and arms blown off yet still biting people to death (a la Monty Python's famous Black Knight).

Soooo - where is the choice of 600 Overkill?

If I could shoot em from the porch I'd likely use something with a fatter safety margin ...

IME the 375 is adequate although just barely. Better to go big. Can I write-in the T REX?

And therein lies the problem - hit 'em with something too small and they quickly devolve from mild to moderate to "Grab the woman and children and head for the storm cellar!"

Though I can't read that, I would venture to say that it is many a good man's dream to be attacked and bitten by a Swedish beaver. beer

Still like Macifej's choice the best so far however.
