I have quit hunting due to age and lung problems and have an extremely good shooting mark x in .458 winchester magnum. It split the original stock and has a Bell and Carlson fiberglass with an integral sling ( doesn't bother your hand when shooting)., shoots clover leaf groups at 100 yds. I would like to sell it but have no idea what it's worth. Can anybody give me an idea what it's worth. Condition is excellant. PS. Bought new in late 70's or early 80's. It's a pretty light weight rifle for a 458.

I have three of the Alaskan's now and I paid between 425.00 which was ridiculous and 875.00 with original sights and stock. Great rifles but at the moment, 600.00 would be the top from what I have seen. Gunbroker has seen several come and go with starting bids of 600.00 with no interest.

There was (maybe still is) two of them listed here on the classifieds and both with original wood stocks. I don't believe either of them was sold.....I think jeffeosso is quite a bit high on his estimate. I'd say more like $400-$500

The were listed at $700 and $900, and both had cracked stocks. I think one that had not been messed with or damaged should fetch $600. I sold one for $600 several years ago.

The world-wide demand for Mark X rifles dropped by 75% when Frank Martinez decided to spend his fun money hunting in Africa.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

In my opinion, compared to their competition, the MK X actioned rifles are severely under-valued. The actions are built of quality materials and the barrels are well built and accurate.

Since Remington now imports their 798, which is the same barreled action, prices for used rifles are still low.

Here in Alaska your file should bring $600-700.

Thanks for your input guys, I'll list it for $595.00 and see what happens. It has been magna-ported, which i like very much. It made recoil tolerable yet didn't increase the muzzle blast like a muzzle brake does.
