I need some help. I have recently started loading for a .416 Rigby. My goal is simply to duplicate the original Kynoch ballistics. (Yea, I know it can be loaded a lot hotter.) The present Kynoch website shows a muzzle velocity of 2300 fps with a 410 grain bullet out of a 26 inch barrel. However, in John Taylor's book AFRICAN RIFLES AND CARTRIDGES, he shows a muzzle velocity of 2350 with that same 410 grain bullet. Here is my question. Do any of you have any old Kynoch literature that would show the original ballstics? I have a hunch that the original ballistics were established in a 28 inch barrel and that the ballistics shown on the web site are the same but established in a barrel that was two inches shorter. Jeff, do you have any recollection of what barrel length that Kynock used to establish the original ballistics? Right now, I am getting 2295 but my CZ has a 25 inch barrel so I think that I am probably in the ball park.
