Forget aesthetics, in practical terms, why aren't more people using tactical bolt knobs on their rifles? I think that they might serve a very functional purpose, especially for DG in Africa or even BG in subzero conditions (like here in Canada)when you might have a frozen bolt or are wearing gloves when hunting. Here is a Quote from a supplier: quote: Seems to me to be perfect for a DGR/BGR. Pic:

Under heavy recoil, that giant knob is gonna whack you on the knuckle.

Sounds like you are speaking from experience ?? I thought that the bolt knob would be far enough out to not interfere with your knuckles.

can we have an option to change it back in summer? I have not seen any quick change bolt knobs

Why change it back in summer? You should practice with the rifle components that you will use during a hunt. Besides, many folks wear heavy leather gloves while hunting Africa to avoid the thorns and briars. At the least, it is cold enough in parts of Africa to warrant gloves just for the cold morninigs and evenings. Surely, someone has thought of this before???

I think this is a much more useful accessory for varmint shooters and snipers. I have a 'big ball bolt knob' on one of my varminters, and it is a bit of a help when shooting while prone, but of no particular benefit while shooting from a typical field position (standing, sitting, or kneeling). A standard round bolt knob works fine on a big bore, especially if the handle is bent upwards a bit. George

Thanks George. I guess they seem pratical bu may not be the right match for the job.

CL, I've thought about that concept myself especially for our cold up here. I've got a couple of spare 30-06 Remingtons, I think I'll convert one and see if it has any merit before I try it on my 338 WM.
