I have heard of "old style" and "new style" Hornady 500 grain .458 FMJ bullets......I just bought a rifle that came with several boxes of these bullets and was wondering what the deal is......the bullets I got with the rifle will stick to a magnet......old style or new style???

If they are the old style, what are they worth???

Thanks!

From what I have heard, there is steel in the old style and then the ones that failed without steel, they are back to steel again.
If a mahnet will work, it should be good projectiles.
Correct me if I am wrong.
I think the North Fork is the best around. If I did not reload, I sould have someone like Superior or others load NF.

Both the "old" and the "new" Hornady solids are steel jacketed.

if they are more than a year or so old, it's the old style, as they had stopped making them with steel jackets, and are only now returning to that.. what's old is new again, no?

The old ones are worth a dollar a box. I'll buy them from you. Smiler

Hornady stopped making the steel jacketed solids about 5 years ago and replaced them with an "encapsulated" solid that turned out to be unsatisfactory. They are now back to making them with steel. jorge

PS: Will, I'll give you two dollars a box. j
