prof242The .395 at DSC
Took .395 SHark bullets and several different cartridges to the Dallas Safari Club show. People were interested in seeing it as a novelty, but couldn't interest anyone in building their own rifle. Guess I'd better stay out of sales. Macifej's bullet generated interest with its shark fins. Most viewers were concerned about the bullet material used.

MacifejWere they concerned that the material didn't make your Elk "dead enough"?? Lack of accuracy? Penetration? Destruction of vitals??
Guess I need to start making them from nylon jacketed steel since the brass isn't strong enough!!

boom stickThe Sharkee with its shark fins is quite revolutionary in band design. The more popular cals with shark fins would be good sellers...
I bet the flat nose "Hammerhear Shark" will be good sellers.

MacifejThe .666" Teufel is complete!!
Now I must make a .666" FN SHarkee!!

boom stickWho is making these devil barrels???
15 January 2008, 03:42
boom stick663 is a 16 gauge...
maybe a 777 or God bore??? (Gott in german) should be done to if you get bored...(775 is a 10 gauge)
Would love to see this demon shark fly

prof242Macifej,
They were just interested in the bullet retaining its petals. I assured them that the elk was DRT, probably due to the petals "grenading."

boom stickHey Macifej...
Will you be making .729" 12 gauge flat nose finned hammerhead solids???
seems that would be great for 12GFH users...and easy on rifled barrels to boot.
hmmm...single shot 3" 12GFH using bmg brass headspacing on the casemouth...hmmm...
trim, stuff, kaboom, throw brass away and repeat. hmmm...
12GFH rimless 3"

Hog KillerProf242, sorry I missed meeting you at the Saturday night event. I would have liked seeing some of the .395 project stuff.
Maybe next year.

RIPMax,
Good work.

Make any plans for a .395 Safari?
I am looking into a trip to RSA for a .395 Shoot. I have not seen enough of that country.
Namibia would be nice too.
As for the octagenarian wedding in Florida, the same weekend as DSC: It was so sweet I almost vomited, er, uh, cried!

prof242Looks like Namibia in 2009. Brett and I've got it narrowed down to about three outfitters.

MacifejWhat's the date??
16 January 2008, 01:41
prof242End of May/1st of June seems to fit our schedules the best. Part of the equation is the available dates of the outfitters we are considering. Seems two are well-known; the other is an up-and-comer.

RIPI like the end of July, first of August. Loved the frost on the grass in the mornings in Botswana, and blue-sky 70F by early afternoon, heavenly weather that gets the blood lust up.
One brief drizzle of rain in the Okavango while I was there. All the locals were shocked that it would dare to rain at all, that time of year.
No rain, all sunny bluebird days for a week in the Tuli Block too.
I may have to beat you back there by this August.
But thousands on barrels, thousands on reamers, thousands on gunsmithing, thousands on actions, thousands on bullets, and more yet to come in reloading dies is taking its toll on a poor man such as myself.
We'll see.
