Ok guys what would it take to fit a 460 wby in a win 70 action that is either a 375 hh or a 300 ultra?
IT looks like all i would have to do is upen up the bolt face and then open up the rails?

PRDATOR,

The 460 Wby in the M/70 doesn't go. The M/70 is designed to take a maximum cartridge length of 3.600". The 460 Wby SAAMI maximum length is 3.750". Also when you open up the magnum bolt face to accept the .579" rim you loose the 'Pinch' between the extractor and the oposite side of the bolt. You will have very poor extraction if you have any at all as the brass will slip out from under the extractor and fail to eject.

Huh, better go tell my buddy Sean that the two he has in 416 Rigby and 450 Dakota were a waste of time and resources. As soon as he gets back from Alaska hunting brown bear and moose. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, and all this time I thought it was a great combination.

I would like to have a big boomer that was better than the Lott ( biger, butJeffe brings up a good point "why" ) that I can get some what cheep brass for with the correct head stamp. And I have two model 70 actions that I could use for this.

HI Rick,
Does your buddy load his 460 to it's potential or does he have to back way off due to the bullets having to be set back so far. He must have one hell of a lot of free bore with the 3.6 mag box. I would think it isn't the most practical choice for a 460 Weatherby.
Take care,
Dave

It can be done and will work flawlessly. If you or your gunsmith know what your doing! There is more to it than rails and bolt face mods. You will need to fabricate basically a new mag box and unfortunately open the lower feed ramp. Youll also have to modify the extractor and scallop the rear bridge for clearance. The 460 wby is a longer case than the action was designed for so expect lots of mods and it will cost you. Id personally start with a CZ550 or if you just have to have a mod 70 then a .450 ackley just can't be beat. Do you really think a w60wby is that much better than a .450 ackley?-Rob

Ackley built both rifles back in the early seventies' in 378 and 460. New boxes, etc. The 378 got rebarrelled to 416 about ten years back. I don't know why either...

Rokay..
Easy mod, lots of power...

How does 500gr at 2400 grab you? or 700gr at 2150?

May I introduce you to the Accurate Reloading rounds, 416, 458, and 470 AR, as well as the 550 Express. At least in the case of the first 3, EASY is by design. The later works in a model 70, Ruger, or mauser.

brass will be availble, headstamped, in a couple months

and if you need MORE power, the 550 Magnum www.550magnum.com and a cz550 are you choice. 700gr at 2400fps

You can find information on all 4 of these on my website, in the link in my signature.

In any event,
CH4D is making a run of dies for the ARs

I have looked at them on that looks fine but my action lenthg is 375 hh so would it be better not to trim them down? Would this get close to the 450 vincent long? and can we do that. Or would we not gain enough from that.
Thanks

Hi Predator,
If your action is set up for a 375 then your magazine box will be a minimum of 3.6 which meeans you can set the bullets out a little further and have a bit more powder capacity which means a little bit more velocity or better velocity with the longer style bullets. Ask Jeff how much freebore or how long a throat the reamers have for the cartridges. If they are short you could have the throat reamed to take advantage of the longer magazine box.
Take care,
Dave

Dave,
thanks for asking.
The AR have .80 throat.. yes, .800".. which means they will clean up a 458 win, 458lott, or 416 taylor chamber with a virgin chamber, provided the lott is turned back one thread.
