Gents:

I have gotten word from Dennis that he is done with my LH CZ 550 375. Here is the list:

new safety
new bolt handle by Half Moon
trigger job
tune the action
build up the bolt release to a pad
knurled the floorplate release button
custom milled a new single leaf rear sight
barrel banded sling swivel
barrel banded front sight
new sight element and hood
Talley QD mounts
re-blued the whole business

question is should the barrel be cut to 23 or 24"? i've had a few excellent discussions with some members and almost to a man the recommendation is to cut the barrel and bit and enjoy improved handling characteristics.

Thanks.

Jeff

ps it'll be restocked next winter so I don't really care about upsetting the balance on the factory stock at this point.

Jeff,
I cut most of my magnum length actioned rifles to 22 inches, my 375 H&H in Win M70 and 416R in Dakota M76. The handling characteristics of both improved and it did not hurt the accuracy at all. I did cut my CZ 550 in 375 to 23 inches and it seemed to balance very well, if I had to do it over I would cut it to 22 inches also.

Looking at the stock pattern we will use for re-stocking next winter, Dennis felt 23" was appropriate. Can't wait to get it back!
