I haven't done it yet -- I did put a reflex on my 45-70 -- I would try a JP or a Doctor sight -- they can mount VERY low, and they should take the recoil quite well - they're both marketed as suitable to mount on the slide of an IPSC gun...

I put the cheapest one i could find on my 550 flanged for load dev and regulation. It has lived through a couple hundred shots.. BUT, your light weight 458 might shake it loose

I would try an Ultradot out (www.ultradotwest.com). The one I have on my .475 Linebaugh DA revolver weighs less than 5-oz. These handguns are real hard on optics........ Plus, it has a lifetime warranty.......

i've had a millet 30 mm reddot on my ruger #1 .458 for several yrs now... probably about 200 rds, plus... other than forgetting to turn it off and letting the battery go down, my only complaint is that the dot is too big, it seems like it covers a texas white-tail at 100 yds...i'll have to look, but i think it has like 10 differnt degrees of brightness...good reddot for around $100....

go big or go home ........

It'll take the recoil better because it's light in weight. I think you'll be happy with your choice, Tom! thumb

The Ultradot Matchdot is. I use the Ultradot 30 which only has a brightness adjustment, but it works really well, plus it is only $139.00 shipped. The Matchdot is a little more. I have more than a thousand full-tilt loads on mine and it isn't any worse for the wear.

I don't know, Tom. Maybe you should call them back and ask them as I am sure they would know. I am using Ruger bases on my SRH. Had Redfields, but I sheared them....... Big Grin

Have been playing with several red dot sights on heavy rifles out here including the fast fire from Burris and the Trijicon equivalent. The Burris is fine on my 9,3 but kept going out of Zero in the .458 Lott

On the .500/416 the trijicon works great.

Have also mounted the bigger Burris 30mm tac tube on the 9,3. Works as advertised. Found the Eotech too heavy and it tore through the mounting rail when I put it on the Lott

Hello,

Have the Doctor Optic 4 MOA on my Krieghoff DR.
I have also tried it on my Ruger #1 450 3 1/4"
and made a mount for my Ruger RSM 416 Rigby.
I used a Trijicon Accupoint also on the DR, not a tru red dot but pretty close.

Regards

If it's for up close and personal work, why put a scope on it? Red dots are great for quick target aquisition -- also great in low light...... At least try it out, Tom!
