Seen one on gunbroker tonight browsing cz 550s and one happened to be in .550 magnum caliber https://www.gunbroker.com/item/778481609 I dont recognize the stock though ? appears to be a factory one but doesnt look like any on the 416 rigbys . I find it interesting though that someone has the same idea I have . About having a rear peep sight with no rear barrel sight .

CZ and BRNO made "standard" style stocks like that primarily for iron sight use. Common to see the folks in Africa carrying those, used with the factory iron sights most often. The Lux or "hogback" is better for scope and can be used with irons, a compromise. That stock could easily have been produced by re-shaping a Lux stock to straight comb with drop and pitch like that. That makes sense for iron-sight-only use, but not for muzzle rise reduction on a .550 Magnum with no muzzle brake. Might be why it is for sale. Cheek smacker? Rip ...

Yeah I read that stocks with drop like that tend to smack you in the face . But I do love how they look , reminds me of the 1920 rifles . I dont see 3k there in the rifle though . Isnt a .550 just a simple rebarrel on a 416 rigby action ?

550 Mag is from a Weatherby case. The 550 Express appeals to me too. Just a shorter case. CEB makes nice .550 bullets. I would like to make one in a Ruger #1. I built a very straight "varmint" style stock for my single shot .577 NE. It makes the recoil come mostly straight back with less muzzle rise. Some like it some don't. It is not a quick handling gun. The stock with more drop at the heel will be much faster to handle for most, like a shot gun. IHMSA BC Provincial Champion and Perfect 40 Score, Unlimited Category, AAA Class.

It has alot of appeal to me too but I am heavily looking at a cz 550 in 500 jeffery . Thats how I ran across that .550 mag for sale .

CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery would be better. More bullet choices. More conventional. Much more affordable compared to custom barrel and dies. Could always sell it. Most folks would be afraid of the 550Mag. IHMSA BC Provincial Champion and Perfect 40 Score, Unlimited Category, AAA Class.

well I want to get into reloading but starting off Im not gonna have time to do that when hunting season comes in this year . 500 jeff is pricey but still in the realm of being able to buy a box to hunt with . Maybe something bigger next year after I get my reloading bench set up . I think the .550 is a good idea though for anyone wanting something bigger than any of the 50 cal hunting rifles . Without needing exotic brass .

You guys are sick! No one in their right mind wants "something bigger than any of the 50 cal hunting rifles". So im guessing its a pretty simple conversion ? 416 rigby rebarrel right ? Hows the factory cz 550 stock hold up to that kind of recoil though ?
