Yea,yea, yea, I know....It's really a 16 Ga. slug gun but when I put this much work into it, it's whatever I want to call it!!!!!
Actually it's a gift for my sister's grand son....He hunts in Southern Minnesota and slugs are the way of the world there.
I started with an old J C Higgins bolt gun and chopped the barrel (getting rid of that ridiculous choke apparatus) and leaving the barrel with the desired cylinder choke.
I found a front sight at Brownells and screwed it on. I couldn't find a suitable rear sight so I made one in the shop. Then added a new rubber but plate, a couple old time 1" sling swivels, a stock refinish and some checkering.
The darn thing shoots 2 1/2" groups at 50 yards and that's about as good as it gets with a slug gun with a smooth barrel.

At 4/5 ounce of lead at 1,600 FPS, it's not a Red Rider

cal pappasCall it a .660 Nitro Express and put us fella with vintage 600 nitros to shame.
Nice gun for a youngster.
Is Minnesota a slug state or can rifles be used?
If a slug state, can rifled bores be used?

Yes.....southern Minnesota is slug only and rifled bores are legal and I believe such handguns as .357 magnum and larger are also legal.
A well built smooth bore shotgun slug is a devastating thing to do to a whitetail.

boom stick http://forums.accuratereloadin...011045221#3011045221Don't forget the 16gfh that we came up with by drawing down 50 bmg cases and adjusting the existing rims. That is one powerful beast.
