Overkill, we are shooting 1,000 grains up to 2,300 so far and we are testing our new 1,200 grain lead flat-nose later today. Will give report. A good hunting velocity for the 700 (.685 actual diameter) 1,000 grain bullet is 2,150 fps +/-

Well, if you are SAFARIKID, the stocks are helium-filled and overall weight is limited to that of the cartridges loaded in it. NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

Dave, the 700 weighs anywhere from 10-1/2lbs. to 20 Lbs. Most rifles are in the 15 lb. range. Very manageable at 15 lbs.

I think with the heavier versions of the 700, like 17 or 18 lbs you could handle 1200 grain bullets at 2200 ft/second. That brake cuts 40% of the recoil out of the equation.
