I was in the Wal-Mart in Cross Lanes yesterday, supposed to be there getting diapers and milk. I went over to the sporting goods department and saw they had Federal 375 H&H ammunition (270 gr soft points).
That's unusual around here. We don't have elk, black bears are not that big, and a 30-06 is all you need to kill a hog.
I'm not complaining. It's nice to see people want that kind of stuff well enough in a little old place like this that Wal-Mart carries it.
No screaming deals on my favorite components yesterday. Remington 30-06 ammo was $11 something, but I don't know where I'd put more of it. If they drop the price to $8 something again, I'll make room for it. I started to leave empty handed and remembered I was supposed to get diapers.

Choices, choices. I guess it's just a matter of priorities, get more ammo or keep the little rugrat clean. Are you sure you didn't clean out the ammo section?
Henry: I live in charleston and have shoot several deer with the 375. We usually have a big bore doe hunt at my farm each year[375 and up allowed].I enen took 3 ground hogs with the 416 Rigby one summer day. Excent practice for Africa.

A couple of years ago I saw the same ammo on sale at the same store and wondered why in the world they stocked it. When I got my .375 I went looking for it and it wasn't there. Made me wonder again.
Have taken a nice buck with a .375 here and have no complaints about the effectiveness ;>
Henry, That ammunition is probably for the groundhogs you have in WV. Everyone knows that when using a puny cartridge like the .375H&H , deer require a 300gr. controlled-expansion super-premium.

I was in a Wal-mart in Northern Ontario a couple of years ago and was hanging around the gun counter.
A guy came in looking for ammo, and was talking to the woman behind the desk. I wasn't paying any attention till he turned to me with a box of .375 Win. ammo and said "Do you know anything about guns? I have a .375 H&H. Will these work in it?"
I gave him a short course in the dangers of not knowing your gun and mixing your ammo. Sheesh!!!!

I was in a gun shop in Morgantown WV and noticed they had a Ruger RSM 375H&H w/Leupold 1.5-5 scope on it,decent wood,it looked brand new.Said it had been fired 5 shots. They were asking $1495.00 but I bet you could Jew them down some.
Wolfangle I wish I knew that a week ago, I would have tried to work a deal. Now howver I bought something else and am out of the gun buying business for awhile.
