CZ's newest catalog shows ammunition for 404J, 500Shuler, and 505 Gibbs. Has anybody shot any yet? How close to published velocities is it?

Rich I own the 404 and 500 Safari Classic rifles. The 500 ammo fired and chambered nicely. The 404 ammo I could not close the bolt on, I had to ship back the entire load I purchased from CZ and they refunded the money. The ammo is actually made by A-Square for CZ, the whole ordeal took weeks to be resolved. When I attempted to make a second order of the 404J ammo, they informed me they no longer sell the ammo and recommended Norma and a couple of other custom ammo makers. Great rifles.

Agree with eurocentric.
Have been told by local dealer that CZ stopped messing with the A-Square-made ammo.
Had to return a bunch of it to my local dealer when it first came out "years" ago.
The "CZ/A-Square" .505 Gibbs ammo would not chamber in the CZ .505 Gibbs rifle.
The local dealer returned his to CZ.
I sent samples of the defective brass to Jamison for his analysis when he was getting set up to make the first batch of .505 Gibbs ... "years" ago.

A-Square had the gall to ask me to send some of it back to them, from whence it had come. Roll Eyes

The case dimensions of A-Square ".375 Weatherby Magnum" offerings were so completely off (ten years ago or so) that the only thing "A-Square" I now value is the reloading book. Change of hands, new management, whatever seems to have made no difference .

I am stuck with two boxes of oversize 505 Gibbs from a-square. Cabela wont take it back. Shoulder too far forward and bolt wont close. JUNK! I glad I learned when I did. The very same ammo returnd by CZ for being out of spec, then dumped by A_square on Cabelas. Sleeze.

Too bad consumer reports does not include gun related products. How do these guys stay in business.

We could use a vendor rating feedback system here on PM.

It is Too bad.

I have some of the early A-Square 500NE and it is great, some of the later is not.

Met Art when he was first really starting the commercial expansion, nice guy then, haven't talked in years now.

People cussed Bertram brass, but that A-Square stuff was noticeably softer than BELL or any other I've run into. Still, if nobody else offers a particular caliber/case...

Dugga Boy,

saw him last year at SHOT Show in Vegas. He looked like he would field dress about 235.
