Jack mentioned who you are, and I can't remember-(
Anyway, he loaded these things for tests for other guns he's building. I would have been VERY happy with 1150 fps with the 525's.

From our conversations, they kill better then anything out of a handgun yet.

GS.,

Jack has made several 50 alaskan revolvers out of the BFR revolver. With a 10" bl, you can get 1650ft./sec with 525 grain Buffalo Bore factory ammunition. This gun is big and heavy but still a kick to shoot.

GS,

I may have the wrong Jack. I am talking about Jack Huntington of JHR Guns. If I do, sorry for the confusion. I guess I'm crazy, but I have always enjoyed shooting big stuff. Rifles and handguns.

I am supposed to have a 50 alaskan being completed and shipped out this week. Jack stays really busy, so it might not make it till next week.

I have shot the 600 nitro encore several times over the last couple of years. It is controllable if you brace yourself. The gun rises to about 70 degrees in recoil, but you can hold on to it and your feet can stay still instead of flying 4 steps backwards if you weigh enough. It is a true handful, but doable if you hold on tight. Rob, you are right, a 600 ok des eagle = NO WAY

Honestly, I'm surprised a .600 NE develops any real velocity in a 12-14 inch barrel. My .50BMG pistol never really got a 647gr bullet going fast enough to generate monster recoil. I suppose you would need much faster powders.-Rob

Not to long ago some yahoo let his 10 year old or so son shoot one of these monster handguns. It hit him on the top of the skull killing him!!! 21/2+ lbs of steel flying at such speed is a real club.

There are 12GaFH Encore Rifles with 26 inch barrels out there that are shootable. The 12GaFH FAR exceeds any .600NE.-Rob

I have lunch nearly every Monday with Dave Van Horn, the smith that made the 600 NE Encore in the video. IIRC he has the rest of the barrel blank from this project still in the rack, 22 inches. With a nice brake it would be almost 26" and with the right loads a shorter barrel will not have a velocity loss.

He said I could shoot the 600 pistol into the bullet trap at the shop. I declined and told him if I ever changed my mind and asked to fire it to tell me no.

I tried to contact him, by phone, email, and fax with no avail. If he would build it I would be definately interested in it. I always wanted to own a 600 Nitro rifle but unlike most people I don't have the doe to afford one...

I just spoke to Dave today so pretty much I have to decide on either a 577 Nitro Express or a 600 Nitro Express TC Encore. I think either one will hurt to shoot! Confused

My .50-70 SSK Contender is handful enough for me. The full bull barrel is so thin that you can't drill and tap it for a scope - even with Pachmayr rubber fore and aft it doesn't weight very much! 475s at 1275 fps and 750s at 1100 fps are plenty for me and for the 55" moose I killed with it. I once fired 39 rounds in one range day; at the 40th shot the pistol left my hand and landed in a snowbank behind me. My hand had gotten so tired from the beating it just refused to hold on for the last shot....

Enjoy your .600 NE.

I decided to go with a 24" bull barrel, un braked, chambered in 577 Nitro Express, will be tapped for scope mounts! Hope recoil will not be too bad!

My revolver in .50 Alaskan slings 525 grain bullets at 1,575 (verfied) and it is more than what I would consider a handful...... Big Grin

Somehow I think probably those getting hit in the head from shooting these sorts of handguns aren't suffering much by way of brain damage. You can't damage what you don't have!

That said, and sarcasm aside. I have a 1" bore black powder cannon I load w/ 500 gr. Fg and a 4 oz. lead ball, that I keep thinking might be interesting with a pistol grip.
