They are fun and lite/handy/accurate and a neat little powerhouse ...but only Hornady makes the brass & ammo bullet flavor's are limited to Hornady 225grSP.& 270Gr.SP interloks..and its hard to find/prolly have to order/search abit,,,,you will have to stockup when you can find it...sorta like 300H&H owners have to do.. Good Luck!

I have had one for about 6 years. It is very portable, well balance and quite accurate. It works well with a 1-5 scope. Without a scope you have really scrunch your face down to see the irons. Making slightly taller iron sights/inserts would not be a chore. Recoil is tolerable. It comes down from recoil quickly. The recoil pad is good. BL(C-2) brings out the best in this rifle. Varget is a close second. The Hornady brass is readily available and of very good quality. I like 260-grain Nosler Partitions and 270 grain Failsafes. 300 grain bullets are great for any pachyderm in the pea patch. I think I have 500 or so pieces of brass. It feeds like a dream with the Steyr rotary magazine. You can set it up with a "Ching" type sling (invented By Eric Ching, RIP). Perfect for elk, moose, bears, etc. in the really thick vegetation. Oh yes, the 250 grain North Fork and 260-grain Accubond will give you a touch more reach, and do good work on arrival. I would jump on it in a heart-beat, except I already did. LD

I owned a pro hunter for awhile. I really liked the gun and the cart. I really wished it was chambered in more rifles, but the steyr is a very good one! Ed DRSS Member

I have one. 71 gr of VVN-550 loaded to 3.11 COAl with a 235 gr Barnes XLC and CCI 250 give me almost 1 hole accuracy at 100 yards. With a Leupold VX III 1.5-5 with the heavy duplex reticle gives me before daylight capability. The recoil is reasonable and I wrapped the stock with black neoprene and camo fleece for archery use to keep the plastic stock from making so much noise. This rifle has enough poop to take anything on this continent and with the right bullet, the world. I love mine and just made some adjustments sighting it in. Elk season starts in two weeks!! I would never sell this rifle and I bought 200 pieces of brass when I bought it 7 yrs ago.

Steyr USA dumped some "new old stock" ones in the market a few months ago - they're around and priced attractively. Magazine availability may be questionable, as I don't see the cartridge offered anymore in their catalogs/website.

Tom, I had a Steyr Scout in 376 at one time. Less than MOA and a slick-handling little carbine. I was going to mention recoil....but then I remembered who I was talking to !!!!!!!!

I got mine from C.D.N.N. They should be able to rustle you up an extra magazine. I had to give mine away when I could no longer shoot rifles.

I had the chance to shoot a few factory rounds through a 376 Steyr Scout Rifle a few days ago. I was suprized at how comfortable the rifle was to shoot. I was at a range shooting off the bench. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
