I'm having trouble finding a commercial source for 375 RUM brass. Does Remington still make it?

Remington tends to run brass in lots. The more exotic chamberings seem not to be run often enough. Are you loading it commercially?

If not, once fired 300 and 338 RUM can be necked up. Have done a few pieces of 270 RUM but that's kinda iffy. Good to go up in the smallest steps you can (say 300 to 338 to 366 to 375).

I have been cutting and blowing it out to .500 by the hundreds lately! Getting ready to blow some more out. How many do you need? I have been buying 500 pieces at a time, I think I am almost out too.

Michael, that's nice of you to offer. Could you spare a 100 cases? I'm more than happy to buy them. Do you have any idea when Remington will be making them again? Regards, AIU

PS. I've been wanting to ask. Did you ever test the Woodleigh .415 450 grain full metal (steel) jacketed "solid" for penetration. They have a "flattish" nose. Thanks ahead of time for any info.

I can spare 50 of them if that will work? I have 100 left, need to make at least 50 more 500 MDM before stopping that operation. So I will cut the remaining stock in half, and get you 50.

Have no idea when Rem might make more? They run in lots so I suspect within a few months time. I checked Midway, Graff, MidSouth, Natchez, Cabelas, and a few more, all are out completely.

Just PM me your address and I will get them out first of the week.

No, never tested the Woodleigh 450. I stopped testing those things they just do to much damage to the range and the impact boxes when they steer off course. Not sure that a 450 gr bullet would come close to being stable anyway? 1:14 has a hell of a time stabilizing 400 grs for terminals. It has to be a really good 400 to stabilize. 65% meplat or better.

Just to clarify,

338 RUM brass is about .090" shorter than 7mm, 300 and 375 RUM brass. So no simple necking up there.

armsandammo.com is showing it in stock...might be worth giving them a call.

Plus 1 with what he said. They have it up here but I refuse to pay 74 dollars for a bag of 50! Found 60 pieces at the gunshow once fired stuff for 45 bucks. I did pay 66 for a bag of 50 just so I could have some brass. Next time will neck up 300 RUM to 375.

I have made some out of 300 RUM brass. They worked very well but are just a little bit shorter than the 375 RUM brass. Ironically some of my most accurate loads have been with reformed 300 RUM brass.

I've been making .375 RUM brass from 7 mm and .300 RUM cases for several years.

I made a simple expander plug from a 7/16" machine bolt that screws into a RCBS .375 RUM expander die. I used my 1/2" drill as a lathe and shapped the bolt into the plug with my grinder and files, and did the final finish with 600 grit emery cloth.

The plug has a long taper, and I simply lube the inside of the 7 mm/.300 case mouth and expand the case to .375 in one step.

I then FL size the case and trim to square the case mouth. I've done 50-60 of these cases so far, and all have re-sized perfectly. I use these cases for my reduced power cast bullet practice rounds.

Both cases in the photo are 7mm RUM before and after expanding.

Except that I'm making 416 RUM - will that 300 RUM stretch that far without splitting? AIU

Maybe? It's a long stretch. You might go 416 with the 300 RUM, but no further I think. I have tried everything to take 300 to .500, and it's a no go, even blowing out with cornmeal, splits every time regardless. But I am taking it to .500. 416 is maybe possible, just try and see.

Had we thought about it I would have sent you a few of those.
