.375 Holland and Holland Belted Rimless Nitro Express It's probably killed more elephant than all the other nitros combined. It's more accurate. It shoots flatter at longer ranges. And the rifles are easier to carry. Need I say more? Indy Life is short. Hunt hard. | |||

What's so great about the .450 3.25"? It fires a 480 grain bullet at around 2100 fps (slower in real barrels, as the factory published velocities with 28" proof barrels). At least two other .450s did exactly the same thing. In fact, the 500/465, 475, .470 Nitro Express, and others have almost identical ballistics. The way I see it, most of the double-rifle nitro expresses are essentially identical, and any differences are ones of availability and price of the ammo. Only on the ends are there any real differences--9.3x74, 450/400, 500 N.E., and that's about it. I've never fired a .577 or carried one far but I've heard it's on the verge of being a stunt like the .600--recoils too much to allow fast second shot. Indy Life is short. Hunt hard. | |||

I shoot a 600 at elephant so fast it's almost like doubling it. Oh wait ... I DID double it... Then I reloaded and shot a proper 1-2 pretty darn quickly. Funny thing is , I never tired of carrying it nor did I realize I had doubled it on my first shot. Must be my massive size absorbs all that recoil more than most. Yeah Doc, If we actually get to do that Ultra Big Bore Double Hunt that Aaron was trying to put together, with everyone else using 577's and 600's, I just couldn't bear the fact that I was going to have to defend the use of my little 500NE!  | |||

Favorite Nitro Express caliber: 1- From the view point of going back in time and being a pre WW II ivory hunter, 577 NE. 2- From practical standpoint as a sport hunter today, 450/400 3".
