Hello,

yesterday I had the chance to shoot a used Weatherby 416 Remington.

Apparently it is approx 15 years old, with an all Aluminum (aluminium) stock. It has been rebarreled, and appears to shoot well.
I have been told that the owner has approx $2800 in this gun, and may sell it for $1000.

If anyone has some info. or opinions on such a rifle, they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

P.

Goes for me too/ Too many "mongrel" parts. If you want a 416 Rem, get a Model 70 NEW for about the same price. jorge

Ditto what Jeffe, and Jorge said! I'd hate to use that thing in sub zero weather! You might have to light a fire to get that thing out of your hands, and off your face! Big Grin

Irish Paul,

When you say 'aluminum stock', do you mean an entirely aluminum stock as in 'The Pug', or a synthetic stock with an aluminum bedding block?

Aluminum is too precious these days to waste on a stock. I want my stock made out of uranium.

Sorry for not getting back to you all sooner.

The stock is solid aluminum, and an original Weatherby. I have been told that Weatherby discontinued the aluminum stocks very early after their inception due to cost.
The stock has a black coating of some sort over the aluminum.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of such a gun.

The gentlemen who is selling it is in Africa now, and a good friend of his loaded up 20 rounds for me, with a 400 grain bullet at 2500 fps or so. It was not much fun to shoot, and I had a flinch for the new few shots of my .30-06 !!

It does appear to be a nice rifle, but I must admit that the relatively short bolt throw took me off guard.

Thanks for all your input guys.

By the way, a uranium stock should do wonders for felt recoil! Osmium might be a tad better though!

I sure would like to see a picture of that. I haven't followed Weatherby rifles much but I never heard of that. Would be neat to see!

If it was made before CNC I can understand the cost concerns, LOL.
