Garret 500 grain hammerheads are hard to beat for reasonably close work

Go to Michael458's B&M web site or the Double Rifle Bullet of the Future thread and you can find the work he and I did with my Siace 45-70 double rifle. I love the 45-70 and think it is the perfect North American double rifle. With a 400 grain CEB #13 solid we got good performance. Using a good solid in the 45-70 you can get better performance than a poor solid in a much more powerful cartridge. The 45-70 is not a magnum but it has proven itself over and over. Forget trying to use really heavy bullets in it to get penetration and power. You are better off using a properly designed lighter bullet.
