I think that US Customs and Border Protection Service confiscated them, I believe that they were just too close to the US southern border for safety.

I think you're correct. The 700 rocked Andy a lot worse than the 4 bore. It (the 4 bore) didn't rise anywhere near that high.

jimatcat,
the big round pictured is the 4 bore round, not a 2 bore round. Also, Andy is shooting maybe one of the 600 overkills in that last picture, not the 4 bore Mastodon double. I am glad someone got some pictures posted. thanks

To set the record straight.....I am shooting the 4 Bore Mastodon in the video. The last picture is me shooting a factory chambered MAS36 caliber 10.75x68. The picture jimatcat captured of me in full recoil is shooting a 700 H&H (on the headstamp) double rifle. I believe that rifle was a lefty. I am righty. Don't know if it makes a difference in felt recoil. It was very unpleasant! I'll bring 5 gallon buckets(lids on)full of water for the next shoot. Will be easier to hit with the cannons and certainly more dramatic! The 600OK I did shoot was a bolt. All in all I had a great time and am looking forward to shooting a 4 Bore again. That was fun! Perhaps Ken will be all healed up by the next shoot. I'd pay his entry fee to see him compete with the 4 Bore in the time relays and group size!!!

Andy

Drewhenrynut,

The 700 nitro double has the triggers set up for a lefty, but I installed a right handed stock that Tom had made for it. So I guess recoil is just what it is on the 700. Glad you enjoyed shooting the big stuff. I wish I could make all of them, but it is quite a haul, about 800 miles one way.

Just remember you guys, I have 2 4 bores by Ken Owen. I would like to sell the right handed Mastodon. It is listed on the Lewis Drake web site under his new rifle inventory with some great close up pictures of it.. I can sell it cheaper than that direct if someone is serious. No collection is complete without one! As you have all seen, it is quite shootable.

It looks like you all had fun at the shoot. The picture of everyone standing and firing their rifles offhand is really nice-so is the one with jimatcat shooting the 416 Rem.Those big rounds can sure cause those muzzles to rise!

come on down next time, george...
the 416 rem is an ultralight.. i believe its WAY under 6# with scope .. i held it, it felt like a 22 in terms of weight .. the other rifle bigdog brought are 600 overkill, 700 AHR, 70 NE, 4 bore doubles (TWO) and a 2 bore muzzle loader ... I'll make certain there's at least one 550 available for you to shoot .. we'll video it

the .416 was easy to shoot... i brought 400gr barnes solids (remington factory) and it handled sweet.... bigdoggy700 told me that the stock weighed 1 pound... and had a slip-on decelerator recoil pad, it made the LOP good for me... recoil was not as bad as my crf m70....and it weighs in at 9 pounds...the rem titanim would be an excellent pack gun, but it needs a palm swell to be able to grip the stock... the trigger guard jammed my middle finger each time i shot it, that was uncomfortable, but could be corrected...

Looks like a ball of fun was had. Only thing that concerns me is that the last BigBore shoot we had down here ... 3 went home with third eyebrows, and the one judged best won the bottle of Scotch to ease the headache. animal

Seems like you guys are 'better' at it than us.
Cheers...
