Small issue on the hunt...
I had a plan all worked out just a week ago.
I am headed back to Africa in April, and had planned to take the Searcy .470 DR and a CZ 300 H&H. I just made a deal, and in a week or so I will have a Chapuis double in 9,3x74R.
The problem: do I make it an all double hunt, or stick with plan "A" and take the 300 H&H?

Since you just got your Searcy (congrats by the way) I'd double down and take 2 rifles you're unfamiliar with.

Rich, if I knew how to put one of those smiley faces after my post, I would have.

It really depends upon a) what game you will be shooting at, and b) what ranges you expect to be faced with.

If it's smaller antelope you're after on the open vlei, go with the .300H&H.

If you'll be hunting zebra, kudu, nyala, et al. in riverine bush, take the 9.3x74R.

Wait till you get your dbl. Take it out and practice two quick shots for practice and see how it feels. You'll know what you want to do after that.

You remind me of the guy that shows up in camp with a new rifle and two unopened boxs of shells.

How many 200 yard shots have you made with the Chapuis?

Take the 300 H&H!!!

By the way, two beautiful guns. If I remember correctly the Chapuis will kick about the same as the Searcy. It's a lot lighter.

What are you hunting for, how far do you expect to shoot, does the 9.3 wear a scope. How well does it shoot and what load.

Rich,

No question here - take the 470 and the 300 for two reasons:
1)what if, by chance, the trophy of a lifetime shows and there is just no way to get close enough to use the 9.3 with which you are not quite as familiar as you are the 300? You'll kick yourself for not having the 300 CRYBABY;
2)leaving the 9.3 home means planning a trip back before leaving Africa! beer

Can't go wrong no matter what you choose to do...

I would take both of them. Reason being the 300 H&H Would be good for smaller game.

It's a real toughie. Can't take the wife, there are too many places (jewelry stores, etc) for her to get into trouble.

N E 450 No2
I have taken my 450 No2 and my 9,3 Chapuis on all 3 of my Safaris, the combo worked great.

If you have enough time to shoot the 9,3, and you are comfortable with it before you leave, then take it.
