I think I've been spending too much time here on AR because you guys somehow got it in my head I could refinish a stock. That was easier said than done, but I did it and I'm pleased with the results considering this was my first attempt and I have no woodworking experience. I read many old threads here on the board and that helped get me through it.

I had wanted to install an ebony forend tip and turn the cheek piece into a pancake style, but opted against it as I quickly realized that was beyond my skill set. I did install a steel neidner style grip cap, and give the stock a little diagonal slant below the ejection port like Ive seen on some express rifle. Prior to this Wayne at AHR installed the barrel band, smoothed out the feeding, and straightened the bolt. You can put me down as another happy AHR customer.

Here's the results:

Looks good to me too. CZs or ZKKs can be made to look real sharp with a little elbow grease.

Fine job! I see that there was a good piece of wood under that factory glop!

I especially like the steel grip cap. thumb

would you mind posting a close up of the grip cap, and telling where you got it? I got four of them sitting here.

Fantastic work Sevens, guess I need to step up myself and give a face lift to some of my CZ's.
Tell us some more of the rifle, did you shorten the stock up front? Rodney.

Thank you all for the compliments!

Rodney, the stock is in its original configuration. I didn't shorten the forend and the checkering is original (checkering made for a pain to sand around). Basically I only intended to free float the barrel, but once I did that I saw there was a decent piece of wood under the factory finish and ended up sanding the whole stock. I applied about 5 or 6 coats of Tru-oil, and a final coat of Minwax finishing wax paste (which seemed rather necessary). Total cost for all this was about $50 including the grip cap.

In case anyone is curious, here is a picture of the stock from the factory:

And here it is now:

Rich, the grip cap is the Sunny Hill Neidner Grip Cap from Brownells. It came blued and was the closest I could find. The stock still needed a little shaping, but if you can live with a little wood showing you'll be fine. It's the right width, but it's off by 1/16" in length. I opted to place the grip cap flush with the back of the stock and just round off the front rather than trying to sand of 1/32" from both sides. Hope that helped; here's some pics.

Nice job. The gripcap does add to the overall look of the rifle.
