Guys, Made up the first of my .458 AR dummy rounds for action testing with brass to spec and 500 grain Hornady interlock bullets. If I make them to 3.350" in length the bullet is seated so that the cannelure is below the case mouth. Looks like the cheap Hornady bullet has been replaced by a bonded core projectile. Anyone know if it and the 500 grain Woodleigh have the cannelure in the same place relative to the nose of the projectile? My guess is that these calibers are heavy recoiling and that crimping is required for use on DG. What is the best way to proceed? What are you fellas who are building them going to do? I have only played around with the forming die from CH4D thus far but I am told that the seater should crimp as well. If that doesn't work to satisfaction then I might get a Lee crimp die just for S&G. I think crimping is fairly necessary but at least it will give you consistant bullet tension and ignition. T minus one week until the gun is finished. | |||

Like seating a 458 winmag long to get performance, I just crimp it lightly in the body of the bullet. I also have a corbin crimp groove tool!! jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round?
