Unless I am remembering wrong, Jarrett made his rep with unlimited benchrest rifles and then parlayed that success to hunting rifles by applying his "super-secret" competition techniques.

That is just plain good marketing. No different than Dick Edelbrock or Carroll Shelby.

If you want the name, you pays the price. OTOH, lots of other people won races with both a lot less and a lot more money.

"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Robgunbuilder,
I'm not going to continue to crap on Roland1's thread here, so I'll answer your questions, insults, and insights NOW,
then if you want to Lord it over me, start another thread, OK?
Ready? Can you handle the TRUTH?
It seems like you're prompting a dare for me to shame myself on the World Wide Web, so I'll indulge you with the caveat that I have no shame, only a willingness to participate and learn as I go.
Onward and upward...

Busmaster007- No offense, but can you read?
No, I participate on the internet forums because I'm totally illiterate and never learned to type...and I mean TYPE.
I was the ONLY guy in a class of 35 in 7th Grade that stayed in the typing class.
Perhaps my musical instrument training and ability to read music had something to do with that.
All the other students were females. Tough break, huh?
I had a crush on the Teacher, too. She was a cute blonde with green cat-eyes...

Do you really understand what your reading?
Of course not. I'm a complete idiot...

Your replies make nearly no sense at all!
To YOU.

Drugs?
That is a very crude accusation.
stupidity?
I will admit to ignorance or inexperience.

Internet Google expertise?
I use Google to find information and images at times, but I hardly think of it as a means to become an expert in any particular field of interest.

No offense Ri-iiiight! Big Grin
but I doubt you have even the remotest knowledge of anything related to firearms period.
Here's where I have to take pause and thank you for making such a bold and daring accusation.
I just went out to the 'Gun Room' and opened the safe to fondle several firearms that have become a reality as a direct result of my time on the internet!
It is THIS very Forum that convinced me to go for the .375 ULTRA MAG.
I chose the Remington 700 because of my interest in that platform and the proprietary'ness' of the cartridge.
I, and my gunsafe, thank you!

Your ability to TRACK a vein of thought is let us say obviously "limited in the exteme".
Please spare us your knowledge and insight".

The vein of thought in this particular thread was if anyone had any experience with the Jarrett rifles. Are YOU still tracking?

If you are for real please educate us by posting some pictures of your .375 African battery and perhaps some real animal pictures taken with those same guns. Come on, Show us your stuff!!!
If they don't exist please just shut up.

I had to post this again because the original didn't post...
It depends on what you mean by 'being real'.
Here's where the TRUTH comes in.
I hunted ONCE in 2001.
It essentially turned out to be 'hiking with rifles', which I expressed my utter discontent about.
My reality consists of eating whatever it is I end up killing.
Running up and down the mountainside to see a doe's ass a 7PM is not my idea of hunting...

If that wasn't kinder and gentler.
Than what?

I could carfe less!-
carfe? The correct answer is "I couldn't care less!"
Well, you TRIED to be kinder and gentler, but I want you to know: Big Grin

Rob

Damn, that was a LOT of work. wave

I TRY to SPELL correctly; answer the questions the best I know how; and stay on Topic.
I had to edit the shit outta this post!
There's probably 10,000 people on the internet laughing their asses off at this thread and the involvment by each poster on it.

My final and most important question is:
Did Roland1 get the .375 he wanted?!

Hope I got it right THIS time!

Jesu Cristo!

Did I mention that I'm trying to get MY computer online and a picture setup SET UP?
YIKES!

I've edited this post about 15 times.
The gist is this:
MY computer is 'frozen' and I'm on my daughter's computer.
It does NOT operate the same way. Very limited.

SO, I have YET to get my rifle out to shoot it, let alone be able to post pictures!
I work with a couple of guys that really ARE Professional Photographers and have indicated that they are willing to assist me in getting 'gun pictures' of professional quality.
UNTIL that happens, everything is 'heresay'.
Sorry, Boys.

You're just gonna have to trust me that I'm a no-shitter; I have the guns and no pictures and virtually no experience.
I DO try to participate in any way I can, limited though that may be.
I make every effort to make intelligent inquiries and offer what limited experience I have.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Kenny Jarret has been using his own actions now for at least 3 years, and closer to 4.

The bolt release looks quite similar to the Montana actions.

He has also been making his own barrels for at least 4 years now as well, with a unique proprietary process, that keeps the bore diameter within 0.0005 inch over the entire length of the barrel (which is fairly sophisticated machining).

I thought they looked well put together (in terms of quality of workmanship).

A friend owns 3 of his rifles, and I met Kenny at his house for drinks and dinner one night.

I was going to buy one of his rifles until he started talking about a certain ethnic minority.
I decided to pass.

Is he rough on the Bhutanese? Does he favor the Micronesians? Unkind to the Danes?

I just looked at Jarrets website to see his version of a big bore and the price just screams out at you.

quote:
The starting price is $9,390 plus excise tax.

Plus excise tax, which is 11%, goes to fund Pittman-Robertson and is a good cause but still......

It also sounds like a push feed.

So for $11,000 I could find a Whitworth 375 H&H, a used Leupold on Ebay, lots of brass and bullets and a pretty good hunt in Africa.

Double Tap,

It was more pedestrian than that.

He's definetly entitled to his opinions, and I'll listen up to a point.

I'm entitled to spend my 3 grand as I want.

Skinner,

It is a push feed.

Not all his rifles are $9,000.
He has utilitarian grades as well.
(I don't mean to sound like I'm defending his rifles....I don't own one).

Gentlemen,

The .375 H&H is my favorite; I own several that were made by the best craftsman around the world. Shooting the .375 H&H for more than 35 Years, I think it is still one of the finest hunting cartridges around IHO.
I will not buy a Jarret rifle, the comments are very obvious. thumbdown

Thank you all for the excellent advice.
