This thread isn't to make you worry ovny, but to make you laugh and learn from our mistakes. Get a scope with 4" of eye relief, don't creep up on it and you'll be fine. The 300 Weatherby is a pussycat compared to your 458 Lott.

The bruise started in the shoulder, that's the blood from the initial impact working it's way down the skin.


Glad to hear it- I got the same bruise from a 7 Rem Mag two weeks ago; a day after I was shooting, I saw the bruise on my upper arm, and for the life of me couldn't remember shooting the rifle from that position, or for that matter, why I'd do such a thing. Confused

I've had a scope cut from a 30-06 taken in the worst field position to take a killing shot at a 400 yard goat. A mate of mine got a scope cut from my .243 (head way to close). I've had brusing up both arms from shooting a 44 Mag Dan Wesson with hot 300gr loads, and a chunk of skin taken out of my index finger from the front sling swivel stud on a Ruger in .458 Win Magnum.

It all adds to the conversation
