New user here. I shoot a reduced load of 96.5 H4350 with a 300 gr. Barnes bullet and get 2650fps out of my .416 Rigby and it shoots real pleasant. I am going to be working up the same load for a friends .416 Wby. to shoot the same bullet, at the same speed. It looks like it'll take about 101 to 105 grains of H4350, but this is about 4 to 8 grains below the minimum shown in the manuals. Anyone gone this much below minimum? I think it'll be fine and I plan on starting at the minimum which is 109 grains and working backward a grain at a time until I get the correct velocity. Thanks. Ed

Ed416, Welcome to the forums!! Personally, I get nervous reducing a powder as slow as H4350 in a case with such large capacity. Cheers... Con

I have used many reduced loads in the Rigby and the WBY will be no different. The WBY does have slightly more case capacity though. If a speed is safe in the Rigby it should work in the WBY, but you will use a little more powder. WOODY Everyone is allowed an opinion, even if its wrong.

I had a 416 Weatherby for many years and my old buddy and hunting companion Peter Lang still does - and between us, we suggest you load 100 grains of Reloader 22 behind a 400 grain Barnes X bullet and you'll get 2450 fps which is 5400 foot pounds. Same load with GS Custom flat nose bullet (410 grains) will give you 2320 fps. 105 grains of reloader 22 with the GSC will give 2450 fps. 110 grains with the same bullet will give you 2530 fps...... all based on a 25 or 26 inch barrel. Peter has been shooting these loads for many years with a great deal of success..... in fact, in all they years we've been hunting together, he's had 100% success on everything he's shot at! As with all reloading data, this comes with the warning that you take responsibility for your own actions.

.......I in no way want to start anything like but my friend in sitka and I get 2425 fps with 76 gr IMR 4064 and a 400 gr X bullet from our 22 " barreled 416 Rems. ..Mine can go a little hotter ,, his can also ....He has chronographed over 2500 fps ,,,but thats a real stout load ..........I prefer 2350-2400 fps w/ 400 gr .bullet.. .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

....That sounds like a Great load ....Is that with the 300 gr.X.???...I thot , looking at the reloading manuals that you would need to stay up around 105 gr of powder......Is the rifle a Whby ??..Thanks for replying with your solution .......How long is the barrel ????? .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Yes, the gun is a standard Weatherby rifle and yes it's the 300 gr. Barnes X. The data I had found showed 109 gr. to 117 gr. of H4350, but I wanted it to go a bit slower (softer). It's still about 100 fps faster than I had wanted, but the stock design makes it real pleasant to shoot, so I'll leave it alone and see what it does to a nilgai next week. Ed
