I was told today that the government change the definition of sporting for shotguns and rifles awhile a go. so this means that guns have to actually compete in nationally recognized sporting events to qualify as sporting. which he says makes my 700 illegal even though according to the law if i use it for sporting its legal. What's the deal?

That's easy to solve - create a new category of Silhouette shooting that involves dangerous game and have a category for bolt, single, and double rifles.

It would actually be lots of fun!!

If you do not think they will try everything to take your guns, you are NOT paying attention.

You mean the ATF? I believe that is up to the Attorney General, in this case Eric Holder.

Your friend (or whoever) needs to post the original source, and that doesn't mean whats it mean.com.

NOt doubting it but if I believe everything even friends said about me, I'd be dead a long time ago; true story.

So? Where's your reference? If you can't find that change in the regs there's no reason to believe your source.

JT,

Your friend may have been referring to the BATFE "study" of SAIGA-style shotguns. They were attempting to forbid importation by classifying them as 'non-sporting use'. The attempt failed this time around.

your 700 is over .500 BORE, and not specifically sporting use round, or exempted.

you have to fill in paperwork, and send case drawings to get the CART okayed..

and then the rifle...

here's Neal's journey .. the 550 express, Mag, and flanged have all been through this process

We've done it with the 585 AHR, 600 OK, and 700 AHR. It's not hard to do, just write the letter and give them the particulars and don't make it sound too scary.

I went to BATFE website. There is no change in the definition of "sporting use" that I can see. They will put out a press release or a notice on their website if something like that is changed.

Only congress can change parts of Title 18- Sec 921.
Now some in ATF and Holders bunch do "STUDIES"
like the SAIGA bit and PR it to hell, just to scare
and discourage gunowners.Ed
