I was out on my evening patrol for hogs, 458 Lott and the 4 wheeler. When I desided to test the 350gr RN Hornady load. This is in responce to RIP's Iron Buffalo postings. Anyway, I came upon a possum, and took the ugly bugger out with the Lott. Needless to say, one possum will not stop the 350gr @ 2480 fps. I will need a LOT more possums to find out how much penitration this load will produce. How do you get a herd of possums to stand shoulder to shoulder for 8 -10 feet bewildered

Two evenings ago, I did get a 180-200 lb boar with the 405 Remmy bullet at 2112 fps. That did slap him right down. clap

Keep up the good work! If I went on evening patrol in a four wheeler with any rifle around here they'd have me in the pokey by dawn. Frowner

HK,
Last time I spotted a possum trying to sneak by me, I beat it to death with a stick. It takes the sport out of it when they play possum after the first blow. However it makes for a good full body mount when they have just been clubbed. Mine was a real trophy possum, and he is hanging by his tail now from the rafters of Whittaker Guns, where my 60 pound beaver boar and 45 pound beaver sow, a trophy pair, also reside.

I must admit that my first hunting trip was possum hunting with Grampa. He took his prize coon hound (Old Rack) out and we quickly spoored up one to pull out of its hole in the ground by its tail. That one got cooked with sweet potatoes. Wilderness possum can be tasty if prepared properly by Grandma.

So I understand your bloodlust for possum, I got it too. I see one , I kill it.

Shooting them with a .458 Lott is sporting indeed, since that way they never have a chance to play possum on you. Rough on the taxidermy though!

Congratulations.

Good luck with the Texas Buffalo. We must compare notes later. thumb

Charles,
Anytime you want to do a "little patrol" in Dallas, with a highpowered rifle let me know, I will give you some streets to drive down.
Might even be able to run a little interference for you....... Well on second thought better not, to much of that kinder gentler stuff floating around here now. Frowner Big Grin

NE,

Yeah, I heard that some of those "kinder gentler" types are still mad about "Magilla" not getting darted. Those idiots think a dart will work like a bullet and put something to sleep at the drop of a hat.

On the other hand, there are those who are now suing the city for not dealing with "Magilla" faster. Roll Eyes

Stuff a 4" PVC pipe full of 'em. You should have no trouble trapping enough...heck I live in coyote ally and still can catch a bucketfull a night!

That would be OK, coons, possums, hogs, etc. They are all walking targets and practice for the Lott.

But if you want a scientific study of penetration of the Lott, you need consistent test media. You can't go mixing your critters willy nilly! Big Grin

For many years I was an Urban Pioneer and lived in East Dallas, I know where of you speak.

In reference to "Magilla" I drove to the Zoo as fast as I could [100MPH+ on the shoulder of the FWY in rush hour traffic, wish I had that on film]. I think I should sue too, I am pretty tramatized. Big Grin
In fact tomorrow it is my job to train some of those responsible for a dangerous animal escapes.
I can't get no relief. Eeker Big Grin Roll Eyes

Tony,

You can get all the help you need, right here, with your buddies on AR. We will be glad to come to Dallas and shoot anything that needs shooting. Just to make sure that we bring enough gun, 375 H&H will be the minimum cal. I keep 60 - 100 rounds of Lott loaded at all times, so give me a call, and I will be 10-33 to Big D. clap

The whole urban pioneer thing is getting a bit old for my tastes. I'm about ready to do a "Green Acres" and move out, but my wife still works downtown so that makes it tricky.
