[QUOTE] In my rifles the AR makes about 172% of the recoil of the .375 H&H.
[QUOTE]

I am entirely too old and beaten up for recoil on that level.

I gave up on weaver Rings and bases about 60 years ago...I gave up on Weaver scopes about 27 years ago.

I use small varibles or fixed Leupold scopes and Talley QD Rings and bases on all my DGRs....Never have seen any reason to change.

That said, I love those European Claw Mounts and bases when installed properly, but they are bloody costly...

Gentlemen, on a hard kicker Aluminum just "ain't going to cut it".

Canuck, if you can get the leupold throwlever bases, the ones that have a post on the bottom of both rings, they will work.

I have used them on 300 WBY Mags, a 340 WBY Mag, A 375 H&H and 458 Whitworth with out any problems.

They are the cheapest QD, go back to zero mount that will work on a hard kicker, that I am aware of.

I have several "hardkickers", from light .338WMs to custom, light .375H&H Grizzly rifles to my .458WM....I wish I had bought one of these YEARS ago, what a nice round to shoot!

I use Talleys, Leupie QRS and SQUARE INSERT QRWs and have never had a problem since I began using the QRs on my working rifles circa 1990.

I open the screw holes to 8/40, epoxy the bases on and make SURE everything is tight, square and solid and Ray is righton as to scope types, I use the same as he does.

For a .458, I like to put a little rubber cement inside my rings and this works very well for me.

Canuck,

I talked at length to a tech today at Warne. He said that Warne was continuing to make products for Leupold including a lot of the square cross bolt bases that are used for the QRW mounts. Warne will sell to you direct if you will give them a call at their plant in Oregon. If you are not a dealer, the price will be retail. And they have most everything in stock. I have some of the vertical split Warne rings and they work OK, I just don't like the way they mate on top of the scope. I've been using Warne bases for about 10 years, mostly with Leupold rings. And they even work great with the Leupold Mark 4 Tactical Rings (very spendy rings). I have a set on a 458 Win Mag and they are terrific.

I like the Warne bases and I have found that Warne also will jump through any number of whoops to take care of your needs.

Give them a call and I bet they will fix you up in very short order.

Best of luck,

This thread is about 6 years old now. Got my QRW problems sorted out way back then. Thanks for all the new advice though. Smiler

Who dredged this old thread up anyway?

Cheers,
Canuck
