As I wait coffee for my 600 Overkill to move along the assembly line, I am assembling some loads.
I have some of AHR's 900gr soft "plinkers", waiting on some Woodleighs as well, a couple boxes of Barnes Banded solids and will probably get a bunch of AHR's 810gr copper hollowpoints. I'll also be getting some cast bullets from Beartooth. Oh, yeah, I have a single 900 Bridger FN solid and a single Bridger 750gr (I think) RN solid.

I emailed Gerard a few weeks back to ask if they had already made or planned to make any of his FN solids (or HV pointies) in this caliber but have not heard back yet.

Anything else of worth out there? Any plans by the bulletmakers on this board - Macifej, Rob( we'll talk this week over straight-chain dimethyl ether beverages)?

Oh, and what's the opinion on a wood-stocked rifle with a silver or gray GunKote finish vs. the same stock and a blue finish?
Here is Safari Kid's 700 AHR prior to dark GunKote finish which made me think about it in the first place

Here's one (maybe Safarikid's again) with dark GunKote finish:

Thanks, I'll contact them. I just didn't see the 600s listed anywhere on Gerard's site so didn't know if they made them at all.

I agree with your second comment -I wouldn't have given it a second thought if somebody asked me - until Ed sent me that photo and I had the same exact response.

That is my 700 and the Shiney finish was not the finished product...It is now a nice non glare soft satin sheen! Fantastic work by them!....Also,Wayne at AHR is talking a 1200 gr bullet for the 700!

Could make some .620's no problem. How heavy do you want them and what kind of quantity?

Probably looking for 100 pieces. As far as weight - well 900gr seems the standard, but I wonder whether lighter or heavier than that would be better for penetration in something like a Cape Buffalo.

So, what do you think - blued or satin silver?

Paul- Once you own one of these guns you'll want to try it out on game. I have always insisted on dull finished guns for hunting. Animals like us perceive minor movements and things that just are not right in their environment. You'll hunt Buff and Ele at 15ft to 25 yrds you don't want to give yourself away. You could always wrap the gun in tape, but think of those heroic pictures afterwards.
Once we meet, your worries about bullets will be over. I have the answer.-Rob

I agree - none of my hunting rifles have shiny anything on them. I never really thought about wood/silver combo until I saw SafariKid's 700AH in it's unfinished form - stunning in my opinion (the finished rifle more so). It made me consider having my 600 OK barrel and action done in gray or titanium gray Gunkote with a similar stock to SarariKids's and a Leupold scope with their new satin gray finish. In the end, I'll probably stick with wood/blue or black gunkote.
See you and your toys on Wednesday.
Paul
