I was just curious as to why nobody is buying those actions. Is it because they do not want to wait till they start making them, or is something wrong with them compared to the other double square bridged Mauser variants out there? $525 seems to be pretty cheap for a large action...

No one knows if something is wrong or not until we see one. I had an order on file for about a year, but cancelled it when the project did not appear it would materialize. Hopefully it will.

gixxer, yep, the price is right.. but it's a WAITING game. those that want on the charter issue (that means early than anyone else) need to wait.... those that wanna pay retail, well, then it'll even be longer to get the first ones out jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? What IS the deal. They have their other actions out. Are they not willing to take a (small) risk on their PH action? I have a project that is on terminal hold for these actions. I am on the list for 2 of them. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if the darn things ever come to fruition. What can we do, as a group, to get this project jump started? Shoot the largest caliber you can shoot well, and practice, practice, practice.

I would have figured that folks would jump right on the wagon, but now that I think about it, they have been taking orders at the charter price for at least a year that I know of, and I saw in another thread that they were not going to start actual production till Jan 2006. I believe they were waiting to get 400 pre orders to cover the tooling cost, but folks have not "come through" with the cash. Although I could understand why folks are not putting down money for a first run model. If there is a problem with your action, would take forever to get it back even after waiting A YEAR to get it in the first place because odds are, everybody would be sending them back for a fixin. But then too, to give them the benefit of the doubt, they more than likely would not ship a marginal product just because folks had been waiting a while to see the fruits of their donated paycheck...

Forgot to mention that it would take me at least a year after the action purchase to get the money/parts to complete the rifle anyways. Time to be all lovey and fuzzy wuzzy with the wife so I can spend some money. She is already on me cause I "acquired" a 375 RUM for a fairly steep price already this year.

Hang on Wildcatter. I don't how long you have been around, nor to what extent you have followed past posts and history about MRC?? Use the search facility to get an overview of the entire saga. But just to recap some of the more important conclusions: MRC almost turned themselves inside out when they tried to introduce SA RH plus all LH action variants in one go. Two concurrent charter programs, and a somewhat optimistic view about the problems that would be encountered put them under a LOT of pressure. It took a while for them to work through that period, and when they finally came out the other side (actions successfully in production, all charter issues delivered), they were ready for a breather. But getting there had not been easy, and even a lot of the esteemed posters on this forum proved to be less than suited for a program like the MRC charter. If you want to be in on a deal like this, patience (actually, PATIENCE) is the name of the game. If you don't have it, don't join. Even more: if you are planning to build a particular rifle for your next trip to XXX in so many months, absolutely forget trying to be in one these programs. You should buy one of these actions if you plan "at some time in the future" to build a rifle on it, and you don't particularly care when it will be. If past experience has been anything to go by, it takes AT LEAST a year from when the tooling is started until the FIRST actions show up on the street. And then there may be configurations (CM/SS, RH/LH) that may not appear before a good time later.

If you are left handed and do not sign-up the left handed Prohunter will not happen. Lefties will not find a action of this length or cost. How many rifles do you need on a standard length action?

I was numero uno on the list when it came out. After about a year of waiting and watching all the trouble with the other charter actions I backed out. I figure if a man wanted to do a cheap big bore project and get started now. He could just buy one of the those Olympic Arms BBK-01 actions and be done with it. Yes they do need a lot of polishing, but I hear the Montana actions do too. A CZ DGR rifle wouldn't be a bad choice either. I learned patience from ordering a Sharps from Shiloh in 1995 and waited until 2000 to get it. Once I got it in hand, the fit and finish was worth the wait. Sometimes we have to wait, although in our society no one likes to. If you want to through money at something, there are several rifle companies in the US and even in South Africa that can make the action you want for 8 times the price and you'll have it within 6 months. I researched that route, it get's expensive quick. If everything works out and the PH actions are up to par, it'll be worth the wait. I talked with the company last week and he still believes they will ship by the end of this year or first of next year for right hand actions. The left hand actions might be 6 to 9 months later. I'd just like to see them make a go of it, in the long run it's another US small business that may take off in the future.
