Ruger offering the #1 in .470 NE & .500 NE.

It is not a big bore but I would also like to see them offer the #1 in one of the 9.3's.

They could do these on a pecial order basis like the Winchester custom shop.

My 2006 big bore project, it will be 2006 before I get it settled.

I tried really hard to ignore this one, made the mistake of calling, and talked myself into it..

The box is only 3.55 long, but opened to the rear, I had them meaasure the box so the write up is wrong. I did get inside dimensions of 15/16" on the front of the box, and 1 1/16". If thats right I see some potential for possible alterations.

Too many other projects in front of it right now and it will be 2007 before it has even a chance to get any serious attention besides cleanup and shooting as is.

I have a lot of rifles but this is my first real big bore, everything ellse is medium heavy.

Edit: I have sugerplums dancing through my head right now about what I could do with this, undetermined ATT. For the near term its shoot it, and take some measurements, long term is what can I stuff in this, 404, 416? I need to make my own measurements and think about this, Slam dunks are a 458 Lott, and a 416 Rem, but I am thinking a classic cartridge, time and a micrometer will decide that.

Schromf, I think that rifle is very fine as a 458 win mag. The only thing I would do is play with loads to find one that pushes a 450 grain solid at 2200 fps but has reasonable pressure.

Thanks 500grains,

I really like this old rifle. I admit the monte carlo doesn't exactly ring my bell. I also think that if I want to the rear of the stock can be reprofiled and this could be removed. The concept sounds good, I will wait till its in hand and carefully measure this.

Like I said before I have several projects ahead of anything I do to this, except cleanup, so load development and shooting it as is will certainly be happening.

I have had a Bison hunt in the back of my mind for a while, and I think the 458 will be mre than enough for the task at hand.

One thing that is for certain, I am not planning on drilling and tapping this, the clean reciver was part of the attraction to me.

I'd really like a .375 flanged double to go along with my .404 which is being built as we speak.

I also can't wait to see me new PH model .470NE I traded my field grade .470 in for.

And My #1 wish is that I'll be able to shoot them all before the year is over.
Cool

PS

Please excuse the spelling and gramer pain kilers and a numb left hand make this typing stuff prety tough.

I don't need either to garble on the keyboard, somehow I manage to hose up typing to almost unbelievable levels. At least you have a good excuse, in my case its just fat fingers or all thumbs, not sure which.

I am waiting for the Dakota 76 African/McGowen stainless (barreled action) .423 Simba (.338 Lapua necked to .423, second from the left above), with Talley rings, bases, and peep and NECG banded, hooded front sight. No barrel band sling base!!!

Then I will stock it myself by rebuilding and repainting a McMillan CZ 550 Magnum stock to fit it, unless I can find another synthetic stock I like. Dakota wants $800 for theirs as an add on after wood upgrades. lol

Maybe it is time I ventured into a Serengetti laminate with the thick layers of walnut. Surely they will make one for a Dakota 76 African?

Sumbuddy who know of synthetic stock for Dakota 76 African?

The .375 Chui and .458 Nyati (first and center cartridges) are a reality already. Hopefully I will finish the .475 Kifaru and .510 Tembo in 2006. Then that is the last of this nonsense. I'll go hunting for the Big Five with the Big Five.

I didn't say I would ever be able to kill and pay for a black rhino, but I will at least be hunting for one. thumb

Just saw an episode of Dangerous Game on OLN. The PH sported a Model 70 Action in 460 Weatherby with iron sights and QD scope mounts. HE stuffed three in the mag too! jorge

Who owns this Francotte? Is it a good shooter, either this rifle or it's twin has been burning holes in my heart for a while. I think it was at Champlins?
