Anyone done any tests with .510 caliber 570g A-Frames, 570g TSX's, 600 Woodleigh PPs, etc? Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

I didn't get the best accuracy with the TSX or Woodleighs, but there were bedding problems, so the jury is still out on my rifle. It was disconcerting to find the TSX's miking .508" In the meantime, I'm pretty sure that I will end up with either the GSC 450grainHV or CEB 360 grain, tipped Lever-Raptor. Or both. 2600fps and greater provides for use on open plains game too. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

it is MY conjecture (that's a fancy word for opinion) that the TSX are under bore to be nicer to doubles -- opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Absolutely, they advertise .509. They shoot great in my 500 Jeffery, but so do the 570g A-Frames. I'm about to get back into the garage to do some more loading now that it's warming up. Here is a photo of one of the .509 Barnes TSX bullets fired from my 505 (.510 bore) Gibbs compared with a 30-06 w/220 partition, 416 Rem w/400 Hornady Interbond, 458 Win with 500 gr Interbond, 505 w/570 TSX and 600 Overkill with 900 gr Woodleigh. The 570 TSX gave the most penetration of them all and I would bet you could almost get away with using them even in situation that normally call for a solid. Check out the photos here: Buff .510 570s They do work, if driven hard and fast. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Thanks Mike, I'm driving my 570g TSX's at 2300 fps. That's all my feeble shoulder will take and still being fun to shoot. In your and Phil's opinion do they open up on other thinner skinned dangerous game well like lions and the big bears? Mike, What you did to those Buffalo with your .500 is an absolute thing of beauty!

Michael ; that was an excellent read!! What is the barrel length on your 500 A-Square? Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

CTR, the barrel on my .500 is 25" long. Chuck, I believe that the 570 grain TSX is designed for low(er) velocity performance. I have not used it on thin-skinned game, but I would not hesitate to do that. I don't load it to lower velocities than around 2,500 fps, however. The petals shear off, of course, but they are plenty big enough to cause serious secondary damage. And the shank of the bullet expands to 65-85 caliber and penetrates almost like a solid. Thanks Mike, I've gotten a cow elk, a mule deer at 225 yards and a 450 lb feral hog at 8' so far with it. So far it has dropped everything like the hand of God has hit them. Waiting for my sons to finish college to hunt buffalo. Thanks again, Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

I ve used Tsx 525 at 2270 fps with excellent expansion and best accuracy in my Gibbs 505 on buffalo. 1" groups. Lost some petals. Woodleigh 600g softs broke up. Neither exited. Also have Northfork CPS 525 for follow up and they group the same at 100yds. Kynock solids too inaccurate about 4".

I shot a feral pig with a .500 A2 at 80 paces using the woodleigh 570 gr soft it was front on slightly angled so I placed the shot so it would be able to go the full length of the hog if the bullet could...it did not, I was suprised. I could not find an exit. Pig probably weighed around 80 kg. He did drop light he'd been hit by a bolt of lightening.

I would feel equally secure with the following 570`s-Woodleigh,Swift,TSX,NF.I have retreived 550gr .458 bullets from snow banks and dirt mounds and I believe a 570 would be fine.I think at that velocity you are better off with a swift,TSX or a NF cps.The NF cps could be the do all, ultimate soft.
