This is my pictures of the 450 Ruger nr 1. And the bullets are primarily woodleigh, but the copperbullet in the case is 400 grs Barnes X i got cheap in a gunstore, The other one is the Norwegian custom made Performance Bullet Production PBP, 400 grains ,solid copper but it has a larger hole to allow better expansion, at 3 us per bullet its a little pricey, but good, ill put out some more pictures of expanded bullets later.

And of course the Bibles has to be there, the scratch on the Boddingtons books is a family member who was reading it too. A member of Felis Leo family.

As you can see its simple rugged , outfitted with a Fajen custom Black walnut stock its wery fine and the lines comes out good when theyre photographed to show them better how they are.

It was with the rifle a set of Warne rings, because the previous owner didn`t like the ruger rings, he`s a mechanic and understands steel perfectly asgood as a gunsmith and he realised that something else was needed here.

im gonna get a Leupold or a good european scope for it . a 1-4x S&B would be fine there, they have a Safari Editon with longer eye relief that would be super. Well enjoy the pics and take it easy.

Updated the thread with new pics.

What kind of work did you have to do with the extractor and the rim cuts?

well, they altered it a little bit to help the rimmed cartridge feed , but my mate who owned it previously, did most of the work, he polished it a bit a took off a little bit, it wasnt much done , but its a classic rifle , eith a american touch to the stock , since it has a semi beavertail foreend, to grip around in the recoil.

Mr. Rigby,

This is not quite correct.

S&B scopes have a "middle eye relief" of 90mm on their "Zenith" scopes. Which is a bit longer than older the "Classics" had.

This is info straight from a phone conversation with Hans Bender. He made it very clear that there is no S&B scope with any so-called "Safari eye relief" or "Magnum eye relief" as there has been rumours of on the internet.

He also sent me the following info via e-mail on their 1.1-4 scope regarding eye relief:

quote:

Magnification - Min. Exit Pupil - Middle Eye-Relief Distance - Max.Exit Pupil

1.1 - 80.0mm - 90.0mm - 100.0mm

1.5 - 74.0mm - 87.5mm - 101.0mm

2.0 - 75.0mm - 87.5mm - 100.0mm

2.5 - 76.0mm - 88.0mm - 100.0mm

3.0 - 77.0mm - 88.5mm - 100.0mm

3.5 - 78.0mm - 88.5mm - 99.0mm

4.0 - 80.0mm - 89.5mm - 99.0mm

I recently bought a 1.1-4x24 Zenith, and it's a great scope. I'm sure it would suit your Ruger #1 very well.

Yes she puts them ther theyre supposed to go, but the question should be : do i?

But originally it was supposed to be a .470 rifle, but it was considered the price of the bullets so itwas a 458

If it puts them where it's supposed to, its a truly beautiful rifle. If its shooter doesn't put them there, then the shooter is holding a truly beautiful rifle when it goes off -- if the shooter gets the bullets where they're supposed to be, the shooter is shooting a truly beautiful rifle!

But seriously -- I love my .458 win #1 -- good balance, seems to put the rounds exactly where I aim them. My #1 .416 rem groups very well on the bench -- seems to go south after a few rounds (even with care for trigger control, etc) -- then offhand, I haven't gotten it to do so well -- maybe responds badly to being too warm, or else it wears me out before my .458 does. Some rifles just seem to shoot more easily than others, even if they do well from the bench -- and that is very individual; some people shoot one rifle better than other people do, and someone else shoots a rifle better than the first shooter.

How have you done when you've shot your rifle?

Dan

thats true, and iam gonn try it more with different bullets soon, from 350 grain up to 500 grain and see what the group with all loads looks like,

One mountain rifle for would be a Nr 1 in lets say 300 H&H for instance and for roedeer, one in .240 H&H& Flanged.

We have a minimum requirement of a 6,5x55 with a 140 grain bullet weight for red deer, moose, wild reindeer and seal over here, for the roedeer, its .222. Rem. perhaps a little off topic but it gives a few choices to choose from.

Svein Solli, used aruger nr 1 with 26 inch barrels in 6,5x55, that was custom build for him. he was a very well known norwegian hunter, gun writer/author, that hunted a bit here and there.

Well the first time it grouped wery good on the range. about 4-6 cm on 3 shots on 100 meters, and i tried to put 3 rounds so fast as i culd load them on , and then they grouped about 6-7 cm on hundred, but it will be better when i get a scope and better front sight on it, the original is a bit to small, for my taste.

Updated the thread with new pictures.

The Scope it the Leupold which i got bought cheaply a little while ago, 1.5-5x20 , a fine scope with german number 4 reticle .

I have tried 350 grs hornady bullets they shoot good, next is 405 grain bullets to try out for cheap training.
