Or a .500 Jeffery or even one in .404 for that matter? Have had one on back order for more than two years now, and I know that Africa is always way behind the first world, but ...even the .458 Lotts I have seen have been "factory" rechambered .458's. Seen a few .416 rigbys though (but that;s not what I ordered)

Lots of guys here have them and shoot them. Idaho Sharpshooter did a bunch of Bullet testing for us with his last winter. RIP has one that he shoots every so often and has also tested some bullets for us.

I have the load data saved and have some photos of the expired (sort-of) bullets.

I have a CZ in 505 and got my elephant with it last year in TZ. I have had on order for almost 2 years a 500 jeff and am sure I will get it before the turn of the next century Roll Eyes

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

I bought a 500 Jeffery at the SCI show this last January. I had feeding troubles with it. So I sent it back to CZ forever.

Had one about two years ago...

Sold it to buy my 600 OK...

Here is a Pic...

Pretty nice rifle for the money....about $2,250...

Had minor feeding and ejection issues that could have been eaisly tuned up...

I just went ahead and decided to go all the way and have a 600OK instead of putting any more $$$ into that rifle...

Ganyana:

I have CZ's in both .404 and .500 Jeffery. In fact, I think I have the first .500 Jeffery that they made. When I got it, the chamber was a bit rough so I sent it back and now it is fine. I have not had any feeding problems with either rifle although maxbear indicated here that he had some problems with his Jeffery and I know of one other guy who had feeding problems with his CZ as well so he sent it back and had AHR build one for him with a single stack magazine. I use Norma brass in the .404 and so far, I have only tried Horneber brass in the .500. I use Woodleigh softs and solids in both guns. I know some guys scoff at this but I think that especailly in the .500 Jeffery, the ogive of the bullet can affect how the rifle feeds. That's why I stick with Woodleigh bullets in these two old calibers and I have not have any trouble with either Jeffery.

Max, can you tell us a little bit about what brass and bullets you were using and a bit more about your feeding problems?

We are broke out with CZ .505 Gibbs in Kentucky, they are collecting dust in the racks:

www.whittakerguns.com

I have seen or purchased at least one of each chambering there ... except the 500 Jeffery ... that seems to be the only scarce one around these parts.

There is even a new .338 Lapua Mag there, last time I looked.
It has the crossbolts fore and aft of magazine box and "fancy grade" wood: $2376.99
I am resisting.
Already have a "home-made" .338LapuaMag. CZ550Mag.

There is and "unfired-as-new-in-box" 450 Rigby there with no crossbolts, fancy grade wood: $1699.00
Another 450 Rigby "new-in-box" there also: $2184.99

That website is rarely up to date.

Other interesting rifles in the shop there recently:
New-In-Box:
Sako TRG and TRG-42 .338LapuaMag.: $2299.99 to $2899.99
Ruger Hawkeye 35 Whelen walnut&blued: $562.99
Ruger Hawkeye 338RCM, 300RCM (SS/syn or walnut&blued): $718.99
Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan and African 375Ruger: $805.99 each
Ruger No-1H Tropical 450/400NE3": $779.99
Kimber Caprivi 375H&H: $2599.99
Kimber Talkeetna 375H&H: $1729.99
Kimber Caprivi 458Lott: $2585.99
CZ 404Jeff: $2184.99
CZ 505Gibbs: $2376.99

Dave, I will do my best to relay what problems I had.

Like I said, I bought the 500 Jeffery from Alice { CZ's owner }herself at the SCI show in Reno.

I bought ammuniton from a well known custom cartridge manufacturer.

40 rounds
Jamision Brass { New }
535 Grain woodleigh
2150 FPS

Ok, on to the feeding issues.

1. With the magazine full of cartridges, I pushed the bolt forward. The head of the bolt would run right over the first cartridge in the stack. So I would have to pull the bolt back , and try again to pick up a round.

2. With the magazine full and bolt open. I pushed the bolt forward. When the bolt did pick up a round I could feed it forward, and about halfway the nose of the bullet would hit against the front receiver ring.

3. Ejection problems happened when fast or slow cycling the bolt. Not all the time but most of the time. When thrusting the bolt rearward completley, the empty case would lay on top the receiver rails.

Seems there was something else, I just can't remember right now.

I had 40 rounds of ammuniton, and I tried cycleing all 40 rounds through that rifle. 3 rounds at a time. With all the same results.

Ok... So the USA is getting them- but why not Europe! I have two african classics on oder for a European delivery. Got all the paperwork sorted and no smell of delivery!

Are the ones available in the US standard grade or African Classics? And does anybody know if they are assembeled by CZ USA with American made barrels or made in Europe?

Lastly, what are your regulations on traveling with ammo opver .495 going to do to the popularity of rifles like the .505 and .500?

I thought it was OVER 500?

The 505 etc. are being assembled in the States which is why they are essentially(?) unavailable anywhere else.

Ganyana, Jmy suggestion is to call Jason at the CZ custom shop. He was very helpful to me on a custom order. All the 505 Gibbs are built by the custom shop.

I remember now what my 4th problem was.

When I chambered a round and removed it I noticed that the headstamp was disfigured. Smashed lettering, and a circular shaped indendation on top of the lettering.

I've got one f the .505's and like it very much. This one was sent back for repairs because of cracked stock. CZ was very good and quick about the matter. The rifle came back to me with an upgraded stock with crossbolts and some bedding around the barrel recoil lug and under the reciever barrel ring. Including ship time to and from turn around was less than two weeks. This particular rifle shoots and feeds well. Barrel is 24" and 1 in 10" twist, one mercury reducer in buttstock, threaded muzzle with removable break/thread protector and whole thing weighs in at 9 3/4 lbs. This is a very nice rifle and I'm sorry that I'm not able to put a picture on here at the moment. Rodney.
