<Cobalt> |
I just started Capstick's book, "The Last Ivory Hunter", and he makes mention of Wally Johnson using a 9.3 Mauser. Would this have been a 57, 62 or 64? Thanks, Cobalt

Cobalt, When Taylor used the term 9.3 Mauser in "African Rifles and Cartridges", it always referred to the 9.3x62. The 9.3x64 is usually referred to as the 9.3 Brenneke.

9.5x57 is a Mannlicher Schnauer chambering with .375 bullets. 9.3x57 was a Mauser chambering? But 9.3x62 was the brainchild of a Berlin gunsmith. Of course it was chambered by Mauser, but IMHO it was not a "Mauser" cartridge. Good shooting! H ------------------
