So I’m sighting in my .505 and Delta point and all is going well and hit the 50 yard target dead center and eject the case. I may have heard something strange while firing. The ejected case has 2 small longitudinal splits near the base side by side with gas ejecting from either end. Never seen anything like it nor has Wayne at AHR. This was Corbon expedition safari factory ammo and Jamison brass (new I assume). I have shot quite a bit of this no problem. I have a pic but alas I am a poor poster if anyone wants to help me out. I am pissed as I have a lot of this ammo. Already leaving messages at cor bon.

Any ideas?

They had, a couple years ago - (before they were bought), a problem with 505 and cheytech brass ... contact corbon

On another big bore forum someone had the identical double split gas ejection issue on some factory sako ammo. Very strange

I had that happen several years ago with some handloads made using Bell brass.

I pulled the bullets, dumped the powder, fired the primers and destroyed the cases.

Not sure exactly why, but I’m convinced it was bad brass. Never had a problem with any other ammo I ever shot in that rifle.

Cor-Bon new ownership has stated they take no responsibility for ammo made under old ownership

The more I learn about the "new" cor-bon be advised to stay well away...

I bought a batch of Jamison .505 Gibbs brass earlier this year, loaded 20 with a midrange load and the first 4 I shot split thru the shoulder and into the neck. Haven’t shot any more of them.

OK maybe ill track down Jamison but they went under as well Cheytac bought them supposedly

I have shot about 120 and this is the first one I noticed. Still have 180 left not willing to throw them away

I destroyed mine because that is plasma cutting and will ruin a rifle barrel.

Luckily, I only fired a couple before I realized what was happening.

Yep pretty similar. The amount of ammo I have is way more expensive than a new barrel. What type of brass was that?

I've only had one do it so far. I guess I'll see if more fail.

Went through all my spent 505 brass and one with a single slit abs one that has a dual slit. So not a common issue but still concerning

Last time that BELL .458 Lott brass was discussed, over a decade ago, IIRC, seems like big suspects were
- improper annealing of the brass cups before or between the early steps of the draw
- impurity or inclusions in the brass raw material
- exposure to ammonia somehow along the way degraded the brass

Jeeze Louisez, or something like that!! scary stuff I figure..Never ever have I seen this, old worn out brass with a slit in front of the belt or a head seperation, but nothing like this...

I had the necks of my .505 Jamison brass split in my .375/ Gibbs .505. Admittedly loaded high pressure with 141 g Retumbo. Velocity 3270 fps. I was only getting 3-5 reloads.
