Anyone know what Material Hornaday uses to encapsulate their .375" full metal jacketed bullets item # 37277?
I don't like to make merchants open up bullet boxes so I can run a magnet over the bullets.

The .458 solids look like a brass alloy jacket with an internal lead core. I don't think they contain any ferrous material, as they have never attracted a magnet.

The .375's, of couse, could be different.

Neither the .416 or .375 Hornady Encapsulated solids are magnetic. The jacket looks like Akalinin described for the .458's.

Two of three .375's from my .376 Steyr went through a 12" dry section of box elder trunk from 20 yards. And from the .416 Aagaard the E-solids went two for two thru a piece of railroad tie.

The Hornady solids in .375, 416, and 458 are copper jacketed only.(no steel)

They formerly had steel under the jacket and a magnet detected it readily.

This practice stopped about the year 2000.

I have been told by reliable sources that the jacket material on the Interbonds is basically the same thing as their cases are made of and then the lead cores are bonded to it and the solids have a heavier jacket.
From my testing and recovery from big game the soft nosed ones work superbly. I'm guessing the solids work well too but it will be tough to beat the old steel jacketed ones.

500 grain 458's of course and a few 400 gr 416. I am anxiously awaiting arrival of their new bullets in 375.
I have recovered bullets from test media but on two big Brown bears all I found was a huge, bloody exit hole and very dead bears.
