What are the differences between the PH Model at $9500 vs the Deluxe Model at $15000. Is there really a $5500 value difference between these two models?

Here is my understanding is that the deluxe model offers several features not found on the PH model:

1. Special sear mechanism not found on any double made today which completely prevents the rifle from being fired unless the trigger is pulled. In other words, it is impossible for the rifle to fire if dropped.

2. Better stock blank.

3. More engraving.

4. Express sights with flip up leaves.

5. More optional features, such as barrel length of your choice, trap door grip cap if you want it, sling swivels if you want them, etc.

In contrast, the PH model is a production gun, although you can specify the length of pull and cast off.

exactly what 500 said....i have bought 2 searcy rifles a 500 nitro and 700 nitro express and i love them both my ph liked the 500 so much he bugged me till i sold him the rifle.

i will be buying another 500 nitro hopfully soon

Which model did you have in your 500 Nitro (PH or Deluxe) and will you get the same model again? I had Butch fit me when I was in Reno and I am seriously considering one of his double rifles in a 470. However, I'm not sure how much more rifle I would be getting in the Deluxe model for the extra money (which in this case is quite abit).

if i get another 500 nitro its going to be the ph modle. i highly recommend the 500 nitro your putting out 10 grand you might as well get the most bang for your buck not only that but the 500 dose have a bit more stopping power and 470 is like a 30-06 every one has one. at least with a 500 nitro you will have something every one dosnt have.


i am currently looking at selling my 700 nitro to finace a few bills........if your interested i may be talked into giving you a deal.

Thanks, but no thanks! I'm not interested in the 700 Nitro unless you are going to throw in a full time gun bearer and contiue to pay his/her room and board!!!

haha thats where i got ya ill sell you a goat with a gun rack on its back you just tie the leash to your belt and whala.......instand gun bearer and it can be paid in grass as it walks along.

I have the PH model in a .470 and I am more than satisfied and I cannot tell any difference in the killing power between it and a .500 but if you want something not many others have then get the .500, why that would be a determining point I have no idea, but apparantly is is with some folks...it would mean I would have to sell my 30-30 and 30-06 and I don't want to do that!

What double did you own in .500 and what game did you shoot with it?

Did you notice a difference in how it killed game versus the .505 Gibbs?

I had a Army Navy that I got from Barry Van Heerden after AJ van Heerden broke the butt stock off of it. I fixed it and later sold it to a fellow in Boise, Id., and no I couldn't tell any difference in it and the 505 Gibbs, but I only shot one buffalo with it. It was too light to shoot and too heavy to carry at 13 plus a tad lbs....I shot a number of Buff with the 505 Gibbs.

I have to apologise that gun was a .577 and I have not shot a buffalo with a 500 N.E., rather the .577 N.E. but I have seen buffalo shot with the 500 N,E. on several ocassions, but my posts still apply, I just didn't observe and difference in the 577 as compared to say my .470...or to the buff I have seen shot with the .500...I have a lot of that on film btw..but one buff doesn't tell one much as to the .577. I have shot a number of buff with the 505 Gibbs Imp. and a couple with the 500 Jefferys...Pierre shoots a 500 Jefferys, Richard Lemmer, his brother in law shoots a .458 Lott and both prefer my .470 and they use it a lot as a back up rifle...However I doubt that all this makes much difference one way or the other, any of them will kill a buffalo pretty fast..

Comparing my .500 to my .585, I think I can perceive that the animals are a bit more sluggish when walking away with a .585 in the vitals, but the difference may be as much in my mind as in performance. I too would prefer a rifle I can carry all day and can hit my target with, and the .500 is my limit on both accounts.
