Does anyone have any knowledge about the Hannibal big bore rifle made by A-Square? Are they good quality and how much does the stock design help with taming recoil? | ||

Pez, Welcome to one newbie from another! As a former owner of a Hannibal in 577 T-REX, I say go to AHR for a build (or do one yourself). Ask anyone here who owns or has shot a 600 OK built on an AHR or Bijou Creek setup, and both the detail and performance of those builds, even at a moderate price level, will leave you with a satisfaction which outstrips even the "mightiest" of A-Square claims. I have owned 2 A-square's. They are not great to look at but work very well. I have shot a A-square in a 460 short A-square, and a 416 rigby. The Rigby I have now is one of the most accurate big bore rifles I've ever fired/both with iron's and scoped. The two A-square I had fed, shot accurate and were tough as nails. Now for the Coil Chek stock, well most don't like them, but they do work. I kind of like them, but hey my taste, in alot of things dont run the norm. If Art were not such a dumb ass (Or lazy--will not answer his phone unless you want to order a gun he will never deliver) he would have made it in the gun biz and was pretty innovative. The first to really do test on bullets and work with the nitro expresses and big game calibers. It a shame I like alot of his ideas. DRSS Member | |||

I have a Hannibal in .500 A-Square. As others have said, the stock is butt ugly. Mine is a nice piece of wood, but it is large with no checkering. That said, the feeding and functioning of rifle is excellent and it is very accurate. I will also say that the stock does a good job of soaking up recoil. A beauty contest winner it is not, but in terms of functionality it does fine. Mike | |||

i admit my taste can be quite odd at times too because in some ways i really like the way that stock looks. i wouldn't say it's beautiful but it just looks tough and rugged and i like that look. alsi i really like one of the stocks in a picture A-Square sent me. the gun in the pic has a dark colored walnut stock with a light colored maple fore-end and cross bolt caps. in addition to the looks it seems the rifles are made extremely well, are very rugged and accurate. i like what i've heard about how they weld the magazine box from plate steel and machine it into the receiver. sounds like these rifles are put together like a tank. | |||

They use a good action! I think they hammer a barreled action into a tree stump. They fit a 600 pound gorilla quite well I suspect, and they should furnish a wheelbarrow and a chineese coolie, with each gun at the time of sale. I have a Hannibal in 458 Lott. I really like this gun. In 2008 I killed three buff in TZ with it. It has a 1917 Enfield action, which is real smooth and does the job well. The stock isn't pretty -- reminds me of my M-1 Garand -- functional, but not exactly for display. If the stock is designed to transmit recoil energy properly, it may really work. What can I say. I sold my Trex to a guy who paid me a premium for it despite nasty case sticking issues because he just had to have it. I wasn't impressed with either the cartridge or the gun itself.
