Macifej Did you have to do that? Did you have to post that pic???? I hope to not ignore any other posts you put up, but I had to "hide Post" this one with the pic. I am sorry, that is a bit creepy and I really don't want to see that! Phobia? Yes! I also do not like heights! I don't like climbing, being on the edge of high places and I don't like "sn@#es! I don't goat hunt either! Ok, thanks to tigger once again I had a bit of a brain storm this morning. I am keeping it a secret right now, but I think maybe I have the solution! I am testing the theory this morning. Michael http://www.b-mriflesandcartridges.com/default.html The New Word is "Non-Conventional", add "Conventional" to the Endangered Species List! Back once again for an update on progress. It seems like many things in shooting and loading it becomes a "compromise". The issue. First currently I am only working with my .500 caliber rifles, but have played a bit with my 458 B&M. Loading 12-15 grs Unique, then some wads over top of the powder, then fill the case with lead or copper coated shot, top it off with wads to hold everything together. Extremely effective even out to 10 yds! Problem--Leading in the barrels. For the first normal shot after some shot shells it is common to loose as much as 150 fps in velocity and have a POI change of 2 inches at 50 yds. Second shot starts back to normal, third shot the barrel is clean again and back to normal. Great patterns, very effective. So far I have tried these methods to stop the leading in the last few days. 1. Copper Coated shot. Great patterns, very effective, but still has leading issues. 2. ITX shot--No leading--but not effective at all. 3. BBs--No leading-Not Effective. 4. A mylar wrap-Very Effective, but did nothing for the leading. 5. Take an index card and roll it inside the case, fill it with shot. Less leading, but not effective even at 5 yds. 6. Use 45 caliber Speer Shot Cups. No lead, but very poor and inconsistent patterns. 7. 410 Shot Cups. Effective to 5 yds and no leading. Some inconsistency in patterns. 8. Single layer paper wrap. 50% less leading and very effective at 5 yds. Less effective at 10 yds. 9. Double layer of paper wrap. No Leading, effective patterns to 5 yds. Not effective at 10 yds. The makeshift double paper wrap does stay with the shot until it leaves the barrel. This is about 1/2 as effective as bare naked shot, but does away with the leading! A compromise. After what tigger said about the tin foil, it reminded me of some of the old paper patch bullet methods. So this is what I was after with the shot. The double paper wrap does keep the barrel from leading, however it does reduce effectiveness. While it will work well for snakes (original intended purpose) it will not be effective past 5 yds, and other uses such as guinea fowl will be very limited. This will have to do for now, until I come up with something better. This method does not interfere with normal bullet loads, no loss of velocity and no POI change.
