I have bedded several rifles, Mausers and Remingtons mostly, but for my "pet" rifle, I'd rather have it done by a P-R-O!!! thumb I'm too nervous of messing up this beautiful stock. Wink

He's does good work. He's a nice fellow, who talks to his clients! That's a whole lot more than some I know!

Addendum:
Actually, Jeffeosso of this forum does a great job. In fact he didn't even charge me! A nice guy too!

I have had Jim Hillin of Mill Creek Shooters Supply (TX) build me a .262 Neck 6mm PPC that he did an excellent job on. Cool

I have also had Darrell Holland build my .266 necked 6mm Ackley Improved that is set up as a LR bench rifle with his laminated bench stock and his Quick Discharge muzzle break---what a shooter---but he doesn't talk much. Cool

I AM competent enough to do the job myself, HOWEVER, this RSM truly has one of the most beautiful stocks that I have ever seen on an American firearm (and that includes my dad's Browning Citori O/U trap gun and MANY Weatherbys that I have seen)!!! Eeker thumb Eeker

Soooooo, to say that I am hesitant to do the job myself is an understatement!
bewildered

I am considering Hill Country Rifle Company because of a particular page on their website.
They note:
quote:
The floor plate is glass bedded perfectly square to the receiver. This will eliminate any uneven harmonic torque on the action & maximize the accuracy of your free - floating barrel as the barrel heats up.

Of course my barrel is NOT free floated, AND they will not have a scope to use (this RSM, will most likely remain un-scoped), but they do bed and build .416 Remingtons ( See Here.), so they DO know about big bores.

Any further opinions?!? bewildered I'll bed my CZ, but this RSM is getting the "royal" treatment. boohoo

Hmmm,
this is a REALLY easy action to bed... do NOT bed the recoil "plate" in, rather let it come in and out, as it is there for a "take up"

a 416 does NOT need to be glass bedded, just make certain the screws are tight when you take it in/out.

if it were mine, and i felt i HAD to do something (mine is a gorgeous stock as well, and I didn't do a thing) I would drill and pin down the wrist and go shoot.
