Good luck with it. It will be fun. I just got through building one on a Model 7. Working up loads with 300gr jacketed bullets. Accuracy is good. Makes big hole in paper. Hope to make big hole in hog.RandyB.

Lot-of-luck Clint! I own an old Remington M-722 that I had converted to .458 X 2" American, which is very much like the .450 Marlin. I used 42.0 grs/IMR-4198/300 gr. HP and have taken several Deer with it. Really knocks them over! <Good Luck!>

just back form the range got all sighted in. i think that 2"3shot group at 200yds is fine. 330hp at 2100fps but i may be just a little over gunned for deer! May the Boom Flop be with you!!Clint

get back last night late. well my 330hp at 2100 work just fine on whitetails! 11:30 11/15 a 8pt 170lbs buck gave me a 180yds shoot the hit was high and tight to the shoulder and exited 4"behind the last rib. after a 35yd death run he is mine! 4;30 another 8pt but bigger tried to walk by at 80yds broke his back! down he goes. was talking to the guys on the ferryboat only one other buck has been taken that is larger this year. thanks for all the well wishes and good luck to all! Clint

This is late. May the force be with you. I have always admired the power of the 45-70. You should see the bang flop from a .58 705 gr old style hollow base. It is shot from a rolling block I had fitted with a Sharon rifle barrel in about '76. Just as you described, but they don't usually make five feet. Big bores are just lots of fun. Good luck on your next big bore hunt. Packy

Hello Clint..
I figured that the Gould 330HP at 2100fps would explode on a deer like a varmint bullet .
What type of alloy were you using and was it heat treated?
As the Gould is a plain base how did you protect the base at the vel. you were shooting?

And congratulations on your bucks! thumb
