I have a Ruger .338 SS that I have had since new aprox 1992. I would like to make a .416 Taylor out of it.. Will this action be strong enough for this round?? Am I the only one who has about 6 gun projects going at a time, or are ther others..???? Thanks Sur5er

Do it. I'm thinking of the same thing on my vintage early 90's SS 300wm with the paddle stock. I'm thinking of waiting on mine however to see if Ruger rolls out a 416 Ruger so brass & dies are easier. This older stock is now kinda nostalgic and is lighter than most newer ones.

Lemme think... 475Gibbs 577 BME 375Ackley 300H&H 308ZTSS nope! Only 5, and the 577 is just waiting on a set of reamers from Dave Manson. Barrel is fit to M30 action and extractor notch cut, sling swivel and barrel band front sight made and fitted, Express rear fitted, just chamber and finish up 90% inletted stock. So, really only four and a third going on. Am I turning into a slacker? Rich DRSS Knowledge not shared is knowledge lost...

It's not the Ruger action you need to worry about ! It's the stock I'm building a 458AR and a 500AR on a 7mm RMag and a 338WM, Ruger Mark 2 and Hawkeye actions and have no confidence issues at all with the actions, but the stock cracking and exploding into toothpicks with my face behind it worries me regards S&F

Perfect for a .416 Taylor. I did exactly the same and used a 1:14" Shilen stainless barrel of 26" length and get about 2415 fps with RL-15 and 400-grainers and no pressure signs. Very efficient cartridge. Perfect action for the job. If I did it again, I might use a 23" long barrel of 1:12" twist, and expect 2350 fps with a 400-grainer. QualCart properly headstamped brass has the same water capacity as Remington .458WinMag necked down to .416, my recipe uses either of these brass makes. Projects I am still working on: 1) .395 Tatanka (finished except for Redding dies and stock painting) 2) .398 Lapua (finished except for dies) 3) .395 Ruger Max (waiting for smith) 4) 400/.395 Nitro Express (at the smith) 5) 500 Mbogo (at the smith) 6) 300 Lapua Magnum (default chambering on Satterlee action on order for over a year) Yep, that is six. Three different gunbuilders. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

............Doesn,t R.I.P. stand for Rifle In Progress .............I,m a real slacker ,,,,,,My 416 just arrived at home this afternoon , but I,m in Juno for another day so it awaits .............I have a number in the grey matter phase .......Still thinking the 460 Whby ,.500 A-Square ...and probably the 475 A&M .........Been thinking about an M4 type varmit rifle for fox& coyote .......Wife needs a new pistol or 2 and one of the new 480,s need to come home with me mayby another 9.3x64 , just so I have a spare ...I,de really like a CZ550 in 338 RUM also .....Haveing a good 9.3 and a 416 , kind of eliminates my need ........... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

the ruger is more than strong enough for a .532 casehead (.222sq/in), at all legitimate pressures. case LENGTH does not change bolt thrust. the ruger actions are probably as strong as in modern bolt action the .590 casehead is .273 sq/in , or about 23% larger in surface area the bolt thrust of a .532 casehead round is 14,430 with a 65K psi round (wsm for example) that equates to a ~53,000psi load in a .590 casehead .... plenty good! just fyi, a .473 casehead is about .176 sq/in, and the boltthrust of a 65kpsi load is about 11,440 opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? 1) Colt 1911 converting to .460 Rowland 2) Savage Striker converting to long range varmint rifle (left bolt, right ejection) 3) .395 Ruger Max (waiting for bluing and sights) 4) 400/.395 Nitro Express (waiting for chamber reamer) 5) Ruger 10/22 .17HMR being restocked, trigger/action work, etc. Not six, but close. My .395 Ruger Max is on a lefthand Ruger 77 MKII, but I want a different stock. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship
