I have a 458 WM that is not getting used, it is an original BRNO 602 action, what can I convert it to, easily, in less of a thumper- I would like to stick to factory loads eg 375 or 404 or 9.3x62- any ideas?

Thanks

Just download the 458 and make it to any degree of thumpless you want.

Or use lighter bullets like the 350 gr. Hornady's. It should be plenty anemic. Smiler

Seriously, with all the 458 bullets around you can make it an easy shooter if you want. You only loose a bit of penetration using lighter bullets but it will be more than a 404 or 9.3 or whatever.

No point ruining a Brno.

unless it has the peep site, you might consider selling or trading for a cz 550 in the caliber you desire ..

you will be many dollars ahead that way

to your question, the case head will need to be .532 or greater, and considering that action, should be longer than 3.35 ..
375hh
416 rem
404 jeffery

but you might sell it... some folks find them highly desirable, and buy a new cz 550 MEDIUM in 9,3x62

I second the Jeffe, Most times it best to sell it or trade it off, for a .416 Rem or Ruger. HOWEVER, a down loaded Lott is an ideal DG cartidge, probably perfect, and thats a simple and economic conversion..I would load it with a 500 gr. bullet at 2150 FPS..you have enough velocity, still shoots 458 Win. in a pinch and most Safari companies have 458s in camp, can be loaded up to 2350 FPS or down to 2000 FPS. An excellent solution IMO.

In fact after giving it a bit more thought, the 458 Lott is your answer, man, its the only whore in town! dancing
