not mine, but given all that it's got - it seems like a good buy at less than 7K. http://www.michaelmerker.com

In my opinion there is not a 458 made that is worth 7,000. Although the gun looks nice, if I were to pay that much i would want it from a well known maker. Why not buy a Ruger and pocket the rest of the money?

Really a nice looking rifle but I'd HAVE to have the scope lower and farther from my eye.

I could have the same rifle made (including the integral rib and front sight) for about $3500.

Why pay more?

It does look nice however.

I'd love to know where to get that done! Seriously, I've got an action ready to go. Just need the integral component barrel, stock blank, stock built and swarovski 30mm scope with claw mounts.

Who do I call to get it all for 3500.00?

New Guy!

Give Al and Roger Biesen a call. They can probably come close to $3,500 for what you want. 509-328-6818

Called Biesen's... they don't do the integral barrels anymore. Whomever used to do them for Biesen passed away.

FYI - They said that integral barrel with rib, sight and barrel band cost about $1500... three (3) years ago.

And to try Fred Wells.

That barrel new is probably $2000 or more. I base that on Lothar walther wanting $1200 apiece for a plainer one, minimum order 6.

Then the stock blank is pretty decent; $600 is allowing for a whole lotta luck. Probably $900-$1100 retail but we'll use $600.

Action (assuimg bells & whistles are already there: $500

Bottom metal, $300

Grip cap, pad, swivel studs $75

Scope and rings are: $1000

Total parts before any work: $ 4475

Honsetly, I don't think Al Biesen is going to pay me $975 in cash to take a similar rifle off his hands.

I think there could be well over $4000 in additional work on that rifle. (Hell, our local stockmaker starts at $3600 for a stock job last time I saw his web page. Granted he's a name brand and making heirloom guns but even no-namers won't do one for much less than $1200).

Then add the stippling on the rib, gold inlay and engraving; excellent fit and finish as far as can be seen by the visible inletting.

You could not build one just like it for any where near that price, IMO.

Richard Stickley did a similar barrel for me in 35 Whelen AI for about $1200 in 1994 or so.
He is in Pocatello Idaho, but I haven't chatted with him a few years, since I haven't done another barrel like that (intergral rib, front sight, and barrel band).

I would do the math this way:
Barrel: $1500
Action: $300
Wood: $400
Stock making: $900
'Smith putting it together: $500
That's $3600.

N. Garret, if you can steer me to a source of surface ground, trued Mauser actions with Blackburn bottom metal, replacement bolt handle, aftermarket trigger (looks to be a Blackburn also) and custom side safety I'd sure give a 10% finder's fee for the 10 I bought for $3000.

Maybe Mark Stratton or another of our professionals can chip in and give us a market range for that type of barrel work in today's dollars?

I think I waited more like 18 months for a similar barrel.

But worth it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think those are QD scope rings.

Hardly seems worth the effort for all those fancy folding sights when they aren't usable...

Yes, they are detachable.

Those are claw mounts.

Figure in another 800 bucks for the mounts and installation.

Fitted claw mounts run $600-$800, FWTW. Man, if I had 7 grand to blow I'd step on that one right away. It just calls to me.
