500 AR for a standard standard-length 3.4" magazine. 500 Bateleur for a standard long-length 3.6" magazine. Why? Simple, they'll deliver maximum performance for their magazine length in the most compact package possible. Jim ![]() "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

if you want to avoid additional cost, which in some cases can be spendy, in some not so much -- i designed the 500 AR to NOT require custom bottommetal, but reworked for feeding.. why? i wanted the easiest possible 500 to be a rethinking of the 500 jeffe to match real needs today -- the original concept was born in like 2002 (dang, i am getting old) when i was building my first 500 jeffe.. and the feeding was driving me nuts the first time.. standard length actions, bottom metals, and bolts -- there it is... i was working out the design in early 2006, which i revised in 2007, and may have to update again for the shorter neck ... I am pleased to have everyone working for the same goals, making the best round possible, and a hugely collective feedback opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? No, no, no Jim, for the 500 Bateleur use a 3.501" magazine length on a standard M98 FN Mauser with Wiebe bottom metal designed for the 500 Jeffery! Or put the 500 Bateleur in a rebarreled Weatherby Mark V with 3.8" long box, single stack, 3-down. Not 3.6" magazine length! Sheesh! Afterall, the 500 Bateleur is only 0.050" longer than the 500 Accurate Reloading. ![]()

3.35, Ron -- not 3.45 .. sorry if that was misunderstood anywhere, as i verified on ammoguide and my drawings, I haven't ever called for longer with a hunting bullet its designed to fit in a STANDARD 30-06 length mag box, which is anywhere from 3.35 to 3.4 .. works great in a rebarreled 300 or 7 rem mag opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? jeffeosso, I was just funning Jim about the 500 Bateleur, since he volunteered. I do not see where you needed to correct anyone above on 3.35 versus 3.45 as those numbers weren't mentioned by anyone, least of all me. I know very little about the 500 AR. ![]() But if the COL of the 500 AR is 3.35", as you say, then with same bullet the 500 Bateleur COL would be 3.40", just to confuse things further, and a Ruger Hawkeye box is about 3.42" inside length from factory. All those factory sheetmetal boxes need front reinforcement work at least. ![]() No doubt the 500 AR is easiest for a 30-06 length action. ![]() I love this picture: ![]()

Jeffe, I believe Ron was referring to case length not cartridge length difference. Ron, I was addressing factory standard length CRF offerings which are delivered with basic 3.4" and 3.6" magazine lengths. So...my answer stands... ![]() And ![]() Jim ![]() "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne
